This is the problem with desktop hot wallets. Something fucks up on your computer and your done

I bought a new surface laptop last year. Only kept crypto shit on it. It tries to update the OS by itself. Fails. Fails to boot up correctly. Panicking because I kept my keystore on it. Luckily it booted up correctly once and I managed to back up my keystore and move my funds eventually to a cold wallet like ledger.

No backup?
Written down the seed on paper?

Is there a GUI one

There was no seed

It is a COLX wallet with a wallet.dat file

Do not use the computer for anything for now. Files dont actually get deletedfl from a computer, they are kept dormant and inaccessible until they are rewritten (when it will be gone forever) No idea how to do so; You can either find a service to get the files restored or see if /g/ can guide you through it.

Check out Recuva, used it before for old videos or something.. Worked like a charm

if not larp anon. use EaseUS recovery
pull the HD from the current comp and run ease on a different comp to recover it.

You're done. You paid for your lesson and hopefully learned from it.

These clever "I'll put it where nobody will look" ideas are never good. Security through obscurity? Just don't.

Lesson learnt!

PHEWW!!!!

Thank thoses Phlebittors!!!

Easiest way is to just reinstall the wallet.

By default your wallet is located here: C:\Users\YourUserNameHere\AppData\Roaming

Copy the whole map: ColossusCoinXT to a USB drive.
Make sure you make some extra backups of your Wallet.dat file.
Simply reinstall the Wallet.
Replace the ColossusCoinXT folder.
Done, no syncing or w/e.
Again, make sure you back-up your wallet.dat file on some different locations/USB drives.

First off, stop what you're doing. If you're posting this from the same computer, you need to stop and SHUT IT DOWN. Any new files, including temporary internet files, may end up replacing that file that is currently still on the hard disk, but is marked as deleted and is thus waiting in queue for the OS to overwrite it with new files. Once it's overwritten, or even a fragment of it is, it's as good as gone.

From there, pull out the hard drive, hook it up to another machine and run some recovery software against the drive. Some good options:
-Recuva
-GetDataBack for NTFS
-Photorec (command line only)
