Original-ish thread time

How does one climb the ranks of the corporate ladder? Right now i'm a Route Sales worker for a food company. Just started recently, before this i worked retail for 4 years. I have an EMT cert, CNA cert, and an Associates of Business Management and Communications.

How do i get out of this spot? I want to climb up, i want to go to corporate and work a nice steady 9-5 desk job, preferably as a high-level Human resources personnel. I'm working on my Bachelors in Business and i have 1 year left on that.

Any tips we can all share to get promotions/get off the ground-level at companies like these?

Tips for getting promotions and being noticed?

General workforce tips?

it really does seem like this huh, when i worked retail the people that got the promotions were not the most qualified or best workers, it was the guys that were buddies with the bosses or were really good at looking good.

You gotta have the appearance of being a solver of problems and a guy who brings in clients/money if possible.

Finish your degree and try to land an entry level post-grad hr job. After ~4-5 years, look into an MBA and either jump ship or get a huge promotion.

Do you work for a large company? Many would rather hire from within because they know the employee. Also, many companies will pay for continuing education.
