If I just buy Bitcoin and Ethereum, and HODL it forever, is that a good plan? I know that it's missing out on a good chunk of gains that I could make by shorting it, but I would rather play the long game than try to short and lose money.

Your advice is mostly basic common sense but it's always good to be reminded.
I'm guilty of this shit myself. Just past week got pajeeted by the UUU shilling and now I'm holding that bag, I rarely do but feels really bad when it happens.
Shills and pajeets always existed but /biz/ was a comfy place during most of 2017. It definitely changed and has become a very crappy and hostile place since January, so much that I've been considering leaving it for good bc at this point even Reddit seems more legit overall.
