This is pretty much it. As you get better at it you can read your tables. Some people like more curt service, some more personal, but you need to be sure or you will turn people off.

NEVER with the personal drama. I don't fucking care how many kids you have or how hectic your community college schedule is.

Know the menu. You should have memorized every item and know some mundane detail about each one so you have a good answer to the inevitable questions.

Talk up the kitchen. I know they are a bunch of ex cons, but if you act like they are top shit your tables will enjoy the food and experiance more. Nothing over the top, just simple stuff. Not " let me check with the kitchen," but " let me check with chef"

Know your wine and beer. Just basics about the styles and pairing 101. Truth is that pairing business is mostly doublespeak anyway.

The acne doesn't help and that is no shit. The real money is at decent restraunts. Local polished casual and fine dining. Suceeding in those roles is basically the previous shit I posted, plus being reliable. Reliable and immune to drama. Restraunts are full of drama queens, substance abusers, and unreliable fucks. If you were a cute blonde chick with fat tits this wouldn't be a problem, but since you are a pizza faced neet you are going to need some experiance. A nice joint, at which you can make bank will not hire you wet behind the ears, but they will hire you out of tgifridays or whatever, and those shit houses will hire anyone who can speak and carry a tray. Start at caudal chains and after 6 months start dropping apps at nicer places. Server experiance is like dog years, 6 months is enough to show you can handle the specific stressors of serving tables.

It's either that or try to get on as a busboy or porter, even a decent upscale restraunt might hire a newb to buss.

I've worked a couple Sales positions before, didn't do half bad. But i've also worked in a kitchen and when I asked to become a server they pretty much told me to go suck cock.
