Am I required to take a meal break in California ? Do I have to clock out for 30 minutes ? Or can I just work though it. My employer tells me I had too take a 30 minute break after 5 hours. But I heard somewhere I don't have too if I don't want too?

Generally, you can willingly give up your break if you choose to. Most employers won't let you though so when they fire you because you're a shit worker, you can't come back and start saying they refused to give you lunches.

I heard it was a liability as well

The people who are posting on this thread like they know what they're talking about didn't consider CA law:

"In California, an employer may not employ an employee for a work period of more than five hours per day without providing the employee with a meal period of not less than thirty minutes, except that if the total work period per day of the employee is no more than six hours, the meal period may be waived by mutual consent of both the employer and employee."

You guys all have amazing speculative powers and everything but 2 seconds in Goog is pretty cool sometimes too.
