Does anyone know who will actually need and use Chainlink? I understand the need for the function that Chainlink will perform, but both VeChain and Aeternity (dApp creation platforms aimed at business based dApps) have both created a way to integrate offchain data into smart contracts, but the ability is built into their platforms which allows anyone building on the platforms to utilize it.

So who need Chainlink? People creating smart contracts do, but if all the smart contract creation platforms can do what Chainlink does, why would anyone need Chainlink? Do you see what I mean? If a business builds a dApp on VeChain and the dApp needs to access offchain data, they can use VeChain's native capabilities, not pay extra money to use Link.

Essentially, the people that need Chainlink are using other platforms that can do what Link does. I just don't see anyone using Link, sorry guys.

Lets say the year is 2019, and the next Facebook has emerged. We'll call it Blockface, and its running on NEO.

Now everyone wants to add a "Sign in with Blockface" button to their dApp, but they're running on Ethereum.

How do they talk?

One solution requires every chain to support every other chain. The other requires chainlink provide adapters for each chain, and dApp developers just trust chainlink's network to facilitate the communication. As a developer I know which method is going to win...

Oh, I thought you were being insincere. Think real hard about this: you need a mechanism which can ensure the data that is put into the blockchain matches the data that is reported by the source(s), otherwise your smart contract is insecure. Of the proposed mechanisms to do this, which one seems the most secure, generalized and independent from the blockchain it is putting data into?

chainlink tries to make a secure solution which banks are willing to adopt
Not something what scam coins are putting in their software while actually being a scam based on marketing being the better alternative of something which was seen as being useful (chainlink)
