So considering that testnet probably hits in about a month, is anyone else thinking of getting one of these things?

>> No.9041511

I still can't understand the Skyminers. You still need an ISP cable to provide internet that can control the connection no?

literal scam.

Thats the point.... Its a chink scam to sell orange pis for $600. You need copper, fiber, or long range antennas to connect people to the internet. Skycoin has no plans of funding any infrastructure like that. Stay away.

What i'm thinking is that at first you do use the cables that are already linking computers together. You'll get antennas at some point and stop relying on isps.

Look anons I don't believe it's a scam since it has been in development for quite some time and has basically 0 marketing so no need to give low level fud.

Well they're not funding the miners either, the idea is that you're incentivised to run nodes, just like you're currently incentivised to mine btc

please explain then, I genuinely want to know how it works or should work

Aren't antenna connections many times slower though and require significant power/energy to broadcast the signal?

Idk how it works yet since I have done almost 0 technical research about it.

You need a lot of power to send signals over large distances, but what you'd want is to not do that and instead have many nodes connecting those distances.
I don't think this type of decentralization will completely replace normal internet because it will be slow (think Tor) but I'm hoping it'll prove to be great for free speech in the long run.

I’m not intelligent enough to mine but want to invest. It’s bizarre they are not on a legitimate exchange after 5 years

Cool idea but obvious scam:
>transparent shilling
>overpriced hardware
>idea is ambitious and may be out of reach

Does anyone know if you can build your own miner and just flash it with their image? I mean, this IS open source right?

I'm no expert, but at first it will basically act like an encrypted high bandwidth VPN network. So it will bypass ISP limits for specific websites in the US, etc. Basically TOR on steroids.
And later you add 5G antennas to the skywire and together they create a mesh network and stop using ISPs altogether.
One of the most ambitious projects that actually makes sense.
Is it a scam? Probably not
Can they actually make it work? Too soon to tell.
I bought eth at 5$ and after 1.5 years this feels like the only project so far that has comparable potential.

They're making money? And which coindevs aren't? Are you one of those guys with a shrine to Sergey in your bedroom? The idea is that I can also make money off of that miner, and if I want i can go DIY and buy my own fucking pis.

>> No.9041765

what the fuck does this thing even do.
1) skycoin is pre-mined, there are no more coins to mine, why do you need a sky'miner'
2) why does some box with a cpu make internet? still need an antennae or cables or something to transmit data
3) the box costs 1BTC. That's almost 9 thousand dollars. With that kind of money you could buy a gaming pc capable of running VR games from 2020 at 8k resolution 160 fps.

this is the herbalife of crypto, expensive useless vaporware being sold as a life-changing innovation

Yes you can build DIY miner, I almost have all the components and there are official guides in the forums.
Why they did the 1 BTC a miner thing? Not sure, maybe create liquidity to skycoin market?

>> No.9041801

>>9041765
It doesn't mine, it transmits data. You get paid for acting as a node of communication between other points. And you can build your own, the linux build for it is already released (as far as I can tell, haven't tested it yet)

it doesn't mine anything it rewards you for being a node, you get a refund in sky or btc your choice, and they deduct the cost of the skyminer(600) you get the rest back

aren't you tired of the same low quality fud? you get skycoin worth of 9400$, it only costs 600$. Is it wrong for the devs to ant people to stand by them instead of speculators? Is it that bad for pump and dumpers that they can't stand one legit project that won't let itself be manipulated? This was $0.01 2 years ago, it's $19.58 now, what more do you want?
