They're overpaid but I wouldn't say extremely overpaid.

Manual labour (sometimes high risk) for 8-10hrs, 6days a week is rough when you have a family. Also their workplace mistakes aren't rectified by hitting backspace.

Injured on the job in U.S. can confirm. Work in skilled trades or any blue collar field for long enough and you will know more then one person who was either fucked up on the job or died on the job even when all proper safety protocols are followed. Cause shit happens even to the prepared.

Me I shattered my kneecap, broke my femur, shattered my jaw, knocked out some teeth, shatterd some other teeth, shattered my skull, twinged my shoulder and went all in on CND 250k total. Will be putting all my liability lotery winnings into crypto around august so hopefully I make it. It would make shitting in a bucket for 2 months worth it.

I actally operate a welding machine.I Still have to put in the settings. Pick up the pieces, change the caliber, put the pieces in the right place, make sure the robot doesn't fuck up the moment you turn around. Clean it all the fucking time, change gas etc. Made my work easier and faster but automation is still a meme

Tradie here, they are generally average iq but a lot of retards in the union I belong to as they are protected, that would never make it in a non union industry.

Self importance is over blown but people should take pride in their work even if they are like me and are good at it but don't enjoy it.

Once again who are the real social contributors that would be trying to get rid of it. You can't just automate laying wiring in a home or building gigantic metal structures. Iron workers aren't going anywhere. Welding is continually automated which is nice but generally someone has to watch the machines and they aren't good in all positions or field repair work..

the average tradesman is an absolute brainlet but gets paid more than many white collar professionals simply by virtue of a unionised workforce.

this unbalance contributes to our "brain drain". if you're actually smart and ambitious you have to move overseas to make it. otherwise, its better to just take up some shitkicker job in construction

wages are skewed in australia because the cost of living (see: housing) is out of this world
