When it comes to Pokemon cards, it's all about rarity. You can buy a box of the current set and sit on it for 15 years for a $1,000 profit. There is no legacy format. Old cards don't get played. And yet a box of Deoxys or Aquapolis sells for $3,000+

Modern collectibles are in a bubble.

Just look at all the overpriced crap that they make to be collectors items from the get go, all those wobbly head plastic pieces of limited shits etc that people pay tens of thousands for.

When the economy gets rough and suddenly people wanna unload their bags its gonna get ugly.

Not pissing on anyone in this thread in particular, but just a general observation from working in the collectible industry.

You can purchase one of showpieces that is sure to start a conversation for way less than some of those "limited edition" things they sell to kids these days.
