Yeah. If you have an interview you’re already 50% in because they want you due based on some factor, often the pedigree of your school or degree (Ivy, PhD, MBA). Once the hiring manager or interviewer deems your personality type is a fit (they prefer intuitive and analytical types with good social skills) I’d go so far to say you are already 80-90% in. The technical or case study questions they give do matter somewhat but I know two people who didn’t do so well during them but still got offers.

really brah? from what I've gathered (in Europe), people get rejected quite often due to minor mistakes in their fit or case interview portion. People frame cases as some dark wizardry but I agree with you that fit probably matters more. I guess I'll just be myself (quite outgoing and not shut-in autistic) and hope for the best

A very long time ago. If you get an interview, are confident, and can string a few sentences together, you get the job. If you look like you are trying too hard, you won't.

Speaking of interviews, I shit the bed on a 4th round at Goldman. It fucking haunts me to this day. I didn't even want the job, but failing at an interview is super embarrassing. I still remember it vividly.

They asked me who I admired as an investor. I spit out Warren Buffett. They asked what Warren just bought a shit ton of. I had no idea. He was buying gold. Had I simply read the Journal, I'd have known that and crushed the interview. They were putting it on a tee for me and I looked like a complete idiot. So shameful.

How could an interview hinge on something so minuscule? Especially after 4 rounds... are they really that petty? Just doesn’t seem like a big deal if they aren’t sure what Buffet is buying, if they have all the other positive attributes of a solid candidate.
