Scaling on chain is the long term plan. Blockstream's long term plan is to get everyone using payment channels connected to banks. Fuck off with that gay shit.

How many horses would it take to pull a 40 tonne artic?

"On-chain scaling" is a myth. You can't transfer 100 GB blocks, validate them and store them indefinitely every 10 minutes. Moore's law can't keep up. You've really underestimated "scale" if you think it will be practical for a distributed network to keep up, when even highly-centralized databases have capacity and scaling limitations.

It's just a scare tactic throwing the word 'banks' in there.

If a bank opened a LN node what would the implications be? What could they do to your funds? What control would they have over the network?

The answer is, they would hold no power aside from the ability to shut their own node down.

What does that have to do with banks? What power do the 'big money movers' have in this scenario?

They can't do any kind of fractional-reserve bullshit.

They can't censor transactions due to onion routing.

Literally the only power they have is the ability to shut down their own node.

>> No.8987038

>>8986939
A hub and spoke network implies there are certain "privileged" nodes who can connect to as many nodes as they want, and "unprivileged" nodes, who can only connect to the privileged ones.

LN is nothing like this because anyone can connect to anyone, and can open as many channels as you want. You can simply route around the "hubs".

Even if you use a "hub" (which is merely a node which has many channels open), the hub can't actually do anything with your money - it's just a proxying service which delivers money to another channel for a small fee.

Anyone can become a "hub" with a few mBTC and a Raspberry Pi. Just run the daemon and open 100 channels to random nodes. Congrats, you're now a "bank".

An LN node simply creates a multi sig transaction with another node on the blockchain, opening a channel.

There is no central structure holding your funds. It's nothing like a bank.

Bitcoin Cash makes me feel like the start of Bitcoin was: fuzzy feelings like we were going to take over the world.

If it wasnt for the old-world takeover of bitcoin development, the drawn-out unnecessary 5 year "scaling debate" and the maxing out of the block capacity bitcoin would be 1 mill now and we would all be rich.
