Fake and gay. They are updating the code and asked the exchanges to temporarily take their nodes offline to update. The coin is just undergoing active development still (check out the constant updates on github) and this is part of that.

For those that do not know the exchange kernel is what prevents 0 day backscatter attacks to the core source code. This is a big deal for the blockchain cryptography of the forked Nano blockchain. Attackers can now modify the kernel modules at will.
