So I'm 19 now, almost 20, I got expelled last year and my parents are currently fighting it in court (really retarded, nothing to do with the school, but some bitch teacher "reported" it, and I got arrested in front of 1400 people and I was in school for literally 2 minutes, and did nothing except sit down and wait for the national anthem to start playing)

Anyways, I should have gone to university when I was 18, but I took an extra semester since me and my friend were going to go together but he needed an extra semester and I had no reason to go 1 semester early since we always shared rides and shit, but yeah (now I realize how dumb this was)

Anyways, I'm applying to colleges next week, like next Monday/Tuesday, and I've been out of a regular high school since around November 2014, I've just been at an Adult Day School (basically independent booklet stuff to get your credits).

I have 26.5 credits right now and I need 30 to graduate, and right now until Oct 30th I'm taking 2 new credits during the day, so I'll have 28.5, finishing off the .5 of a credit I have, so that's 29, and then I need to take one more, which I'll take in October during night school or something like that.

For Ontario (fuck this place, its so shit btw) you need 6 courses to apply for university, so my "top 6" will be English 95, Pre Calculus 90, Calculus & Vectors 90, Earth & Space Science 95, Biology 95, and Data Management 95. I'm currently taking English and Calculus though, so those marks are "anticipated", but I'll probably do a bit better than what I've said, since I'm really enjoying how they're teaching it at the Day School using this new "flipped classroom method."

My question is, my average looks like it will be around 93%, but I've been out of school for 1 year come this November, and the closest I can apply would be January, then May and finally September.

If you were in my position, would you go to college in January 2016, as soon as you can, and rush everything, or would you go for May 2016? What about waiting 2 years, (technically 3, since my gap year)?

I'm already losing a lot of friends and shit, and like my social life, which I never had much of to begin with, is deteriorating FAST!

I kind of want to go as quick as possible, but if I do wait until May I could potentially do even better in my courses and bump my average up to a 95, which would give me virtually no problems getting into any Computer Science or Mathematics/Statistics BSc I want, but is it worth the trade off? $2000 x 4 years, but I've basically wasted 2.5 years, or should I just go now and fuck the $10,000?

My parents are wealthy enough to pay for university, and I do receive a decent amount of government loans, my cost for the year would be around $14,000 (transportation (car) + tuition) and I'm going to receive around $8000 in government help, and like $1000 on top of that in free money, plus like a $1000 scholarship. so I'm really only on the hook for around $5,000 a year, after textbooks and all that fun stuff, maybe $6000, which isn't really much for my parents.

I just don't know what to do, save $10k over another 6 months, or just go and make $100k, 6 months earlier in 4 years (after I graduate) lol

By the way I'm thinking of applying to University of Waterloo for January, University of Western Ontario for May, and University of Toronto for September. (2016) Toronto and Western only offer in May and September, and Waterloo offers during all 3 sessions, so I could go to Waterloo at anytime, but what about the other 2?

889223

Would you pick one over the other? They're all relatively "good" and "top tier" for Computer Science and Math, shouldn't have a problem networking at any of them and building a social life will be easiest at Western and Toronto, but Waterloo is arguably the hardest of the bunch.

The entrance averages were 91% for Waterloo, 87% for University of Toronto, and around 84% for Western University.

Any /biz/ /adv/ is appreciated a lot!

Also I'm kind of leaning towards Actuarial Science right now, because I don't know much about CS, or programming in general, but I've wanted to learn that's why CS was also my choice

I could probably do some electives for CS anyways, Statistics is harder to do electives for

But yeah... Thank you /b/ros!

Also if I want to go to an "easier" university, Brock University and York University also offer admission in January and May and September, and they have similar admission requirements and I meet their expectations for sure.

The thing with York and Brock is, I could get a MUCH higher GPA (higher at Brock than York, and York will be higher than the other 3)

So since I do plan on going to grad school, I guess I have to look at this too.

Also Brock would be much cheaper for me in terms of transportation (1/2 the time compared to other 3) and York would cost the same (Toronto Traffic)

So Brock would get me the highest average, AND it is the cheapest, and it's a university that's getting much more well known recently, as well as lots of extra $ funding for opening up new stuff, and well, it's basically a mini "Western" in terms of social life, so that's another plus, plus it's close to Niagara and close to my home and close to Toronto so again networking will be a BREEZE.

Finna just go to Fanshawe for computer programming shyt then switch to Western U to get my bachelors of science.

But it's weird because the college website says one thing about transferring, the university website says another, and then ONtransfer shows a completely different articulation agreement.

So i'm not sure who to believe. Although ontransfer seems the most reliable.

I made a tweet saying Hitler shoulda waited before he killed the Jews so they coulda killed the Muslims for us

I was pissed cuz of the Ottawa shootings, I was "on edge"

Got threatened by Muslims, didn't know them, said they gonna show up at my school, rape my sis + family, and jump me

Didn't wanna take chances since we just got 500 kids at my school and literally I didn't know a lot of these kids from some inner city school

So I told them if they did anything a hammer would come for their skulls

Took hammer for protection since I didn't wanna get jumped

Tfw some kid told the teacher, the kid that threatened to fight me lol, and the teacher told the principal

Principal pulled me out of class, I got taken to office, waited for 6 hours while being interrogated illegally by 6 adults, and they held me there illegally when I said I was going to leave (blocked the doorway). Then they searched me, found a hammer + wrench, and then the cops arrest me, go to jail 7 hours no food no water

Get out, call lawyer, get lawyer, retain lawyer, now we're almost finished dropping the charges, and then we will sue them for A LOT of "technicalities" like detaining me illegally, not putting the school on lockdown because of rape threats, and allowing members not of the school population to roam the halls and not pulling my sister out of class for 5 hours while some kids who threatened to rape her walked freely in the hallways

Then they said they were gonna expel me, got expelled without even being given a chance to "give my side of the story" to the school board discipline committee (they took 2 minutes to decide to expel me because the principal never told me when the hearing was, and I was not allowed to talk to her since she was a witness in my case, according to the officers, so I couldn't even talk to her if I wanted)

-------

Waiting to sue these fuckers for everything they've got, and everything the city and school board has too.

Not going to let it go.

The tweet was made at night btw, not even at school.

It was at my own home, my own device, my own internet connection on my own account

So like, I have a pretty damn good chance of winning, there is literally no way I'll lose.

I'm planning on settling, but I'm not sure how much I could make out of it.

There's 3 principals, the 6 main kids who initiated threats, and there were over 7,000 tweets exchanged that night between me and others and others saying "defamatory" shit about me

700 pages, 10 tweets each, all evidence

Also video evidence of the principal holding me in the room, not letting me leave, and the cops searching me

What do you think?

I know the tweet might have been stupid, but it was not hate speech, since the police sargeant said "pending charges for hate speech" but then he said "not hate speech, but "dumb speech""

So the only reason they charged me was the hammer

"Possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes, injurious to public peace"

But my argument is, since I had the hammer, no kids jumped me, which detered them from really harming me or my family/sis

But in the Canadian law, self defense is against the law, since I "intended" to use the hammer, IF I was assaulted, so that's "against the law, somehow" but caselaw comes into effect and should work in my favor

>> No.889349

>>889344

It is protected, that's why I wasn't charged with hate speech (see next post)

But the thing is, it was a national news reaction, which is totally allowed in Canadian law, I didn't bring it up out of the blue

I brought it up in response to the terrorist shootings on Parliament hill which killed a Canadian Soldier at the war memorial

Also Harper called him a Terrorist too.

And lots of media did that day

The national Post aired a 10 page story about Muslims in Canada saying the terrorist attack was "justified" (saved this for my trial)

So yeah, I think I will win, just got to get to trial, and use my resources

Also it wasn't publicized because obviously it's a scandal, but I never signed anything stating I can't publicize so one of my tactics will be "threatening the leak" of this "scandal" to the press, and then asking for a settlement

Waterloo's the only one from your list I applied to and didn't get, and those who graduate from it (mind the high dropout rate) tend to command a premium. It's a lot of work to do the booklets, I can only finish like 1 out of 20 lessons per day, and that's if I spent 4-5 hours, so that's why I decided to take like 2-3 months to do it, but if I finish faster, I can always ask and see if they'll let me finish a bit quicker

No idea yet, application deadline is like October 30th, or December 1st right, so I will apply in like 2-3 weeks probably

I have to make a list of places I want to apply too, so far my list is looking like this:

Waterloo Mathematics
Waterloo Computer Science
Waterloo Arts [Political Science] - (If they allow me to apply for Winter, because they usually only take during September)

York Mathematics for Commerce [Actuarial Stream]
York Political Science
York Computer Science
York Computer Security

Brock Computer Science
Brock Mathematics/Statistics

+ more

I'm still doing some research on which universities accept students in the Winter, so I have to check with Ryerson, Toronto (UTM / UTSC and STG), Guelph, McMaster, and Western.

They don't normally advertise these opening spots, so I have to sort of apply directly to the school for some of them, and the rest through OUAC

True.

I'm gonna be reaching college then transferring to western probably.

I watched some western orientation week videos on YouTube... Looks sick as fuck, seems like tons of bros and sloots. I hope they like me even if I live off rez ;-;

Couple of my friends went to Western and now they're off campus, but they loved it, they all said its about first year experience the most, but the work isn't that hard, and the profs are very nice, one friend only had 1 bad prof out of 10, and he wasn't even that bad, so they really enjoyed it

Also check out "Pat Greenall" on YouTube, especially the Western ones, they're hilarious bro!

Lol watched those. Pretty jokes.

But I'm kinda autistic and don't like to drink/drugs that much, so I'll probably not fit in ;-;

Also I wonder how it works if you transfer into 3rd year in terms of making friends and shit.

It works fine, university is like starting high school every year you're there I guess, you always meet new people, and there's literally tens of thousands of undergrads at Western, so you'll be fine

Just go and talk to a bunch of people, fuck your past, it's not that hard I guess

I won't even be in the same class as my friends so it'll be just like, starting brand new without any friends at all for me, which will suck a bit, but I'll make new ones for sure

Are you going to have a car?

>> No.890999

>>890995
Nah I never even got my g2.

I figured since I'm not down to pay $500 a month for insurance and my parents' whip is always bring used there's no point of getting drivers license. Plus fuck those expensive ass lessons fam

>> No.891005

>>890999

Autist.

Once you get your G1, your insurance is covered by your parents plan, but after that you have to pay for your own, even if you don't have your own car, the moment there's a car at home, you technically have to pay for insurance, even if you don't use it, because if you ever take the car out, and you get so much as a parking ticket, or get pulled over, or get into an accident, you will be raped.

But, I don't even have my insurance yet, and I've been driving for 4 years already, not on my own, but with my parents.

Go get your G while you're in college because its extremely important man, one of my friends just got his G1, and he regrets it because his younger brother has to drive him to school (he's 20), so it's sad.

+ having your license = making friends, because you can offer to drive people places which makes friends.

Also, if you learn how to party/drink (doesn't have to do drugs) you can offer your friends who are also off campus if you make any, to come live with you if they have a rough night or something

>friendships for life

off campus doesn't have to suck, I'll be driving to school lol, like an hour away each way and just last week I talked to one of my friends who actually replied, and he said if I go to York I could stay with him and his girlfriend if I ever needed to because of the weather or something

So yeah, it won't be hard at all, but get your god damn license, you don't even have to get insurance, just make sure no one finds out you don't have it, no one that you can't trust anyway

>> No.891013

>>891005
Lol I got my g1 bruh, now I just need to take shitty lessons and pass le test.

Besides I'm going to be living right next to college/uni since rent is so fucking cheap. Seems retarded to waste so much money on maintenance,/gas when you can easily walk or take a bus to your destination.

The heck you mean about no insurance? Isn't it a criminal offense and thousands fine? Or is that just driving without license

I kinda outgrew drugs tho, weed and oxy was fun for a while but it became unworth tbh. Oxycodone is God-tier shit tho but sucks to get addicted

>> No.891026

>>891013

You don't need lessons, they're not even worth $10

The $500 you spend will be like 10 hours of lessons and 40 hours of in class, its literally such a waste of money man, I never even took lessons

I learned how to drive on the highway within 2 hours of first turning on the car lol

It is a criminal offence, but since you don't drive your parents car, and you don't have your own, you won't be driving so you don't "need" insurance, because you'll never be in a situation where you're driving

But if you're like me, and sometimes do take the car, just drive VERY carefully lol

Don't get pulled over and don't give anyone a reason to report you haha.

>> No.891028

>>891026
Lessons give you like a 20% reduction in insurance costs which will really help and pay it self off later on.

Also kinda important to learn how to drive in a busy street... Need that other set of pedals to make sure you don't kill yourself first time you get on the street. You should get insurance dude, it's like a $5000 fine if you get pulled over, not to mention if you get into an accident you're going to be sued for everything you have by the other guy's insurance company.

>> No.891029

>>891013

plus also, rent is like $400 a month at Western, then you need food, $300, then you need bus pass $50, then you need to spend money on other useless shit like clothes and all that

How far do you live away from Western if you had to drive? Like 30 minutes?

That's barely 50 km of driving a day, your insurance will be around $300 because of your age, and you could lease or finance a car for $250 - $300 a month, (used car).

So you'd actually save money if you just lived with your parents, although you'd have to drive maybe an hour a day, it's kind of cheaper.

Even if you had to drive 2 hours, it's still cheaper, because fuel isn't that expensive if you're on the highway.

After you're driving like 5-6 hours a day, then fuel becomes not worth the price, but yah...

For me, I'm going to be driving for 1 hour each way (2 hours total), and it'll cost me around $70 a week in fuel (1000 kilometers weekly)

My insurance will be around $200 - $250, and I'll live with my parents, so I don't have to spend a lot of money on food and stuff, except like $8 for lunch, then $3 in the morning and $3 in the evening, so my daily cost is like $25 ($10 for insurance, $15 for food) then my fuel is $300 / month, so in total it's around $35 a day.

If I lived in residence, I'd be spending around $60 / day just living there, with no car, and not much freedom to go anywhere I want

So really I'm saving 50% for me, while having insurance and living with parents (my parents don't mind though, dunno bout yours)

>> No.891030

>>891028

Lessons don't give you nearly 20%, more like 10%

Also, spending $300 + a month, to save $30, is bullshit for me

I just drove without it, and that's because I'm not a bad driver at all, I'm one of the best you'll ever see, but that's because I've been driving for 4 years now.

Also the fine is now $10,000 in Ontario, + 1 year license suspension

>> No.891033

>>891028

Also you can't sue me if I have nothing to sue for, kek

It will take years to go to court, and by then, I'll just settle, and pay like $10,000 or something, small claims court

If I paid for insurance, I would have spent $500 a month for 3 years, so $500 x 36, and another $400 / month for 12 months, so $22,800.

Still cheaper to go to court, and sue, which will take me like 5 years to finish in court (after college is done), and then come out to settle for some small amount, like $10,000 or $15,000, because I had no money, and it'll be done with, lmfao.

I lost nothing.

But, if I don't get into an accident, which I only have another 4 months to make sure nothing happens, then everything is fine, and I saved my family over $22,800.

Which means, that's more money for me, to use to pay for school.

>See how it works?

>> No.891045

>>891029
Rent is cheap. Food I guess is quite a bit but w.e. bus pass I've heard you get free as student.

I'd have to drive over 5 hours per day if I were to drive to western as well... Not really saving me any money kek

>>891030
$10,000 + one year suspension... + getting blacklisted by every insurance company + getting sued, it's not one or the other it's all of them

Fuck that man. Much easier to just pay the money. You can always get into an accident at no fault of your own regardless of how safe you drive

>> No.891054

Doesn't matter, I only have 4 months left.

I get my insurance January 1st, 2016, or like December 21st or around that week

So I technically have like 3.5 months left, and then I start school, where my parents have said they'll get me insurance since I'll be driving alone everyday.

Our thing right now, if we get into an accident while I'm driving is, for me to hope in the back seat, and my parents take the wheel lol

But yeah, I agree its cheap, but Insurance is so expensive in Ontario, I mean some of my friends are paying $800 a month, that it's just a huge drain. So that's why, I did not pay for it.

It's not "easy" to spend $23,000 over 4 years, because that's more than it would cost to lease a Mercedes Benz C300 2015 model year.

So you see, it's a waste of money.

I'll make between 85k-90k this year. I started in March 2012. I live in a pretty low COL area in the midwest. You could expect to make a bit more and pay more to live in a city. I'm not sure which situation makes you come up better in the end although cities can be more interesting to live in.

I went to UVA. But actuarial is an interesting field. Prestige of school counts some but being able to pass the exams is more important. So you see a lot of guys who went to small schools that had actuarial programs.

"Big shots" depends on a lot of things. Are you working for an insurance company or a consultancy? If the former, director level people probably can make 200k+. At some insurers, people have started in actuary but moved about the company and ended up in C-suite roles but this is uncommon. If working at a consultancy, partners can make a lot but I'm sure it varies quite a bit.
