I am in the mood to spoon feed. Chainlink is a decentralized method for bringing any external data into the blockchain typically in api format.

Many of the big dlt platforms cant work with external data - bitcoin, ethereum, hyperledger, iota, etc. To make blockchains usable for industry they need to integrate and communicate with legacy systems and info - chainlink is the decentralized answer to this problem and will be the BEST option.

That information, be it from a data provider, bank, or whomever, must be turned into an API before chainlink can process those requests though. If chainlink really does revolutionize the industry all that means is that the API economy will grow exponentially. But it's still just API's
