My tax authority is asking for a copy of my wallet (printed out and sent via mail)

I want to declare my coins, because any capital gains are free. If I dont declare them, cashing out in the future can be problematic.

Is it safe to send a printed out version of my wallet? I'm using electrum with a master private key for address seeds
its password protected, but the wallet contains all my transactions
How do I tell them to fuck off and only declare my balance instead? There's no way I'm sending them my wallet, right?

>> No.8841942

dont cash out and stop being a cuck

>> No.8841957

what country do you live in and how do the government know about your crypto transactions? or is it just a random request

>> No.8841968

Which country does this? That's madness.

I want to declare them out of free decision

I already cashed out some money previously, but this time I want to declare it "as bitcoin" because I want to hodl. They say as a proof of it, I have to send them my wallet

>> No.8842077

I have some problems with this because

I am not entirely sure my wallet is safe if I send them via mail or even electronically

and even if that wasnt an issue (because it is password protected), the wallet itself doesnt prove that the coins belong to me, only the private keys will prove that, which I am obviously not going to send them

I dont want them to see all my transactions which are included in the wallet

>tax authority wants my keys
No, friend. This is a well known Pajeetian scam.

how the fuck do you mail a bitcoin wallet

>> No.8842184

>>8842024
I HOPE they mean your public key, otherwise tell them to fuck off

>> No.8842198

>>8842098
they dont "want" my keys, they didnt ask for anything and its definitely not a scam

I want to declare them, but in order to do so, they want a copy of my wallet. This seems like a poor solution since they only started doing this in 2017 and it seems like they dont know what they're doing yet

google translate: "Proof of Bitcoin inventory may be provided by a copy of the wallets, the digital purses."

>>8842160
you can open your wallet with a text editor
its only about 12 pages of Json data

>>8842198
assuming this isn't a scam and they're serious, shouldnt they be ok with you submitting any addresses you hold btc on and signing them? any other way seems retarded

>> No.8842306

>>8842198

just do exactly what they say then anon. give them a wallet with however x amount of bitcoin you are willing to declare on tax. Make a fresh one so they cant see your transaction history, if they look it up on the blockchain then send btc from your exchange (binance) to it and wash it so they cant see how much money you have. If you do exactly what they say they wont look too deep and will fuck off

you have not answered what country are you from yet

Switzerland, which is weird since some places in switzerland are extremely crypto-friendly

it just seems like the tax authorities are inexperienced

I am tempted to just send them a screenshot of my client that shows my wallet balance, but I am aware of how laughable this would be

Wouldn't them just knowing the address accomplish the same thing?

it honestly sounds like they could mean a screenshot

kinda, like I said, sending them a wallet doesnt prove I own it, much like posting your address, its prettymuch worthless

>> No.8842584

>>8842555
I assume they're technologically hindered, but what kind of joke would a screenshot be?

I realize there's no reason for me to photoshop a higher amount just for shits and giggles, but I could make the amount lower and declare less than I actually have... I think they'd laugh at me or even start an investigation if I did that instead

rule 1: NEVER give up more information than you are required too, if they say they want a copy of your digital wallet, then dont worry about how fucking insignificant that may be just give them what they ask for and be thankful that they dont ask for me ie records of transactions (even if they did these are not hard to 'make up' a common way of claiming tax that is used are people who keep a log book of kms driving in their car and claim they use their car for work, as long as you have bothered to make a record of each trip then it is tax deductable) Same with crypto transactions. These people want to be able to close your file as hassle free as possible because there are literally tens of thousands of other people that they have to get through,

apart from privacy issues, do you guys think it is even SAFE to send my wallet to a third party?

I'm pretty sure they can't do shit without my password, but I am not at 100%. its especially this part I am worried about: pic related (obviously deleted the values inside)

>> No.8843103

>>8843035
nope. sounds stupid

i mean, you could have 0,1 btc today, send screenshot and then buy link, then eoy youll have millions

so i guess you should tell him to fuck off

>id be worried that he sends you some thugs for your linkies

>> No.8843218

>>8843103
you could do the same if I actually sent them the wallet

I'd really like to pin this to a technicality, basically saying "I cannot send you a copy of my wallet because X"
but right now, it just doesnt feel safe, but maybe it totally is and I actually need to send them my wallet
this would also allow them to see who I received and sent money to, which isnt even required for bank accounts

>> No.8843280

>>8843218
1) tell him you use a wallet thats shows your private key everywhere.
2) if they ask for transfer to another wallet, ask them who will pay for transaction fees

i dont believe they get to point 2. they dont know anything about this shit for now

Nigga its simple tell them you dont use wallet only a single address and send public key.

>> No.8843496

>>8843218
first off, i would not like sharing my info either, i don' think i would
BUT if send them the info (possibly create a new wallet) could you not transfer out, convert then, deposit into a new wallet?
