I have a masters degree in mechanical engineering. What's the best way for me to make several hundred thousand dollars a year?

Start selling insurance or cars, or property or medical equipment.

Engineers are a dime a dozen. Good sales people with charisma, character and charm are not.

This

Everyone thinks they will become rich and successful as an engineer.

Dead wrong, You will never make 700k a year engineering.

You will never make 700k a year as a salesman, either. You probably won't even make 70k.

Then how could I make that type of money with my degree? It doesn't have to be engineering related but I'm sure my degree has some benefit elsewhere.

Get a millwright ticket and make huge bank. Or stay in the dumb engineering field and make 60k

That's where you're wrong. I banking, consulting, pharm sales rep, etc making a lot of money. Those are sales job. Engineering is saturated field which you can be replaced by someone dumber, younger, and cheaper than you.

Australia. I have nothing to lose really so shoot away.

Ah. Well it would be a subsidized high tech hardware startup in europe. Need an engineer that works with rapid prototyping techniques and shape memory alloys to develop/iterate prototypes and refine the product.

currently I'm designing and developing all the machinery but I'm not a trained engineer. it takes longer and I tend to massively overengineer things. while the end result works, it's often markedly clunky.

Serviceable addressable market is gigantic.

Do you have a website I could look at? I think starting a business would be the best bet.

Lending, consulting, and customer relations are not sales job despite there being an overlap in some of the skills required.

We're still in pre seed, the website is basically just a cryptic image.

I hear the startup climate in the down under isn't so hot right now, sadly - although it seems to be getting better.
