So /biz/ I have an interview with a company in the next couple of days for an internship. I've never done one outside of shitty fast food places, so this'll be my first professional one. What is some advice that has helped you with interviews before?

Lie about everything that cant be verified.

Assume you have the job before you go in. That will dispel nerves and make you confident. Rehearse your responses. Don't speak too fast, it conveys weakness and uncertainty, don't talk too long either. Make three points for every question you are asked, then stop talking.

Expect to be nervous and awkward if it's your first time. This is normal, interviewing is a skill like any other. I know my first few "real" interview were disasters. My only advice is to realize that both sides are just trying to see if they would be good fit for each other, most interview questions aren't about right or wrong, but more to see how you think and solve problems. Good luck buddy, happy to see an actual business and finance thread.

When they ask you why you want this job... tell them you are extremely passionate about not starving to death. Ive used it several times. Always gets a good laugh.

If things arent going well, try offering sexual favors.

Do a couple more of these, and you'll get the hang of it.. Best of luck! :)

This. A little humor goes a long way in showing that you aren't a fuckin weirdo. No need to overdo it, though.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I do have a bad habit of speaking quickly but I'll definitely rehearse.

I always thought humor would be good, just didn't know when exactly it would be good to use it. Thanks I'll give that a shot.

-Just try to act like you're a normal human being and try as hard as you can to not be nervous.
-Talk to the interviewer in a casual but appropriate/professional manner.
-Act like you're interested in what the company does even if you aren't. Do some research beforehand.

I do research so I always look to see if any papers have come out of the company. I also like to talk about my own research even if it's not relevant to what the company has done because I've been involved with a lot of super varied and interesting things.

I also like to talk about the city they're in if the company is in another state. I'll usually try to find a hot spot the night before (if I have the time) so I can chat about something familiar. Sports is also great to chat about sometimes. I used to hate watching sports but now that's all I do b/c I learned it connects people in a way most things don't.

Be confident. Believe in yourself and know you’re the shit. Try not to stress about it too much and remember it’s just an internship

>> No.8730662

ask them if there is anything that would make them hesitant to hire you so you can clear up any misconceptions or concerns that they have about you while you are in person.

This.

Interviews are nothing more than a test to see how effectively you can lie. Lie, lie, lie. Lie about your interest in the company. Lie about your experiences at previous workplaces. Lie about ANYTHING that cannot be accurately verified. Lie, lie, lie.

Same here. I dont get why there hasnt been a crypto board yet.

I got a question for the thread. For a job interview should you always wear a suit? Ive heard it both way .

For anything above working at a gas station, yes.

You don't have to wear a suit unless you're going into something business related (however, I do anyway). But you do need to dress up no matter what.

Some more progressive companies say you can wear whatever you want (Epic systems in Wisconsin does this) - dress up anyway. It will distinguish you from other candidates.

Dress like you want the job.
