The ironic thing is, even if there was a community consensus, the minority could simply fork to retain the EOS token chain, making ETH truly decentralized, unlike the kind of decisions that EOS platform allows.

They still haven't suggested it. Or did you miss the "this is not a proposal" part or the fact that it was posted on April Fools day. The point is, even if they did suggest it and literally all the ETH developers together decided they wanted to do that, they can't without community consensus, because Ethereum, unlike EOS, is ACTUALLY decentralized.
