What the fuck just happened /biz/?

>Not great market where I live
>Most jobs are casual and turbulent
>Business seeking permanent part-time
>Go for interview
>Goes well thanks to learning /biz/ness tricks
>Tell me they call me in the next couple of days
>Very next day get call asking if I'd be interested in trying a casual position "Just to see if you'd fit in and like working here..."
>Say I'm interested, but apologise as I'm currently busy but will get back to them in next 48 hours
>"Okay, thanks Anon"
>two hours later get a call
>Same person as before
>"Anon, after thinking about it some more, I'm going to have to withdraw the offer [which?]; you either want it or you don't. Thank you for your time"
>Still busy, can't quite process what's happened so mumble "T-thanks, you t-"
>Hangs up

Now everyone I've told this to is telling me I should have just said "Yes".

Initially I thought they tried to downgrade me from part-time to casual, but now I'm wondering if it really was an attempt to help get me accustomed to their workplace. Now I'm worried I just scuttled any hope of getting any position there at all.

I'm going to call them tomorrow and ask if the Part-Time position has been filled, or is that acting too thirsty?

Not giving you time to consider an offer is ridiculous and definitely not standard at any legit company. If you really need a job now, you can call and ask if it is still open. There isn't really much downside to that. This definitely isn't a company I'd want to stay with long term though.

>> No.867501

You won the lottery and managed to be the one in a million resume they chose to call.
You didn't say yes though, and gave bullshit about 'calling them back'
So they moved on and picked the second in a millionth resume to call.
They did say yes. The position is now filled.

Never say no.

>> No.867506

part time job and you need fucking 48 hours to decide?

>> No.867507

Sounds like a shit place m9. I wouldn't call them because they called the rest of their list within those two hours and someone took the part time job.

Next time it would be best to take the casual position and try it out if you have nothing going on.

>>867501
Don't be like this cuck though. He would suck dicks for nickels and you must have more dignity than that.

If you really needed a job then you probably should've taken anything.

But normally you should be allowed to think over your job offer. Companies understand you're not only applying at one place(no one does this unless it's a VERY high position).

Just search for a new job.

Retail Staff Manager

They won't disclose that, although similar jobs in the area (i.e. part-time) pay between 22.84 to 28.00 AUD

Better than being a casual at this stage.
I'd just like consistently regular work closer to home (currently drive 40min to-and-fro').
>what kind of store is it?
Fabric and carpets.

Protip: Just say yes.
It is not easier for you to reject the job later than to look like a faggot saying "call you back" bullshit.
They gonna think you're not interested and why bother anyway.
It's not being a yes man as the other dumb poster said. Unless you are already employed and can afford to lose the offer, why you acting like a entitled cunt. Besides, if it really is casual or part time, I doubt you even have a long notice period to terminate your position. Take a look while you keep looking and if something you like comes along just fuck off.
Why can't people understand this simple logic. Of course unless you are definite sure you don't like the job but why apply or bother call back in the first place.
Dumb unemployed fags.

Same fag here.
Realise everyone is stupid as fuck on this board.
OP finds a positions, interviewed for it, which he should have researched enough to know what the position entails and also found out more during the interview.
Received phone call, simple offer for OP to come take a look to decide if he likes.
After so long still not sure if he's interested, technically they didn't say it was casual or change in the original offer.
Couldn't even agree to come check out the place etc and can't say yes after so long of consideration.
Now regret stupid move and everyone agrees he needed more time, time for what? You had enough time to apply, interview and think about the job.
Technically they didn't even mentioned about change in terms, your paranoid ass assumed that.

Enjoy your unemployed life.

Was this a union environment?
A trucking company I used to do contract for that was mostly unionised regularly 'hired' casuals and let them go on a cyclical basis depending how much business they were getting. Was there way of minimising having teamsters on the clock who earned three to five times casual pay on the clock. Some ppl rained casual for several years before giving up.

Congratulations, you avoided something shady. It's possible to speculate as to what they were doing, but difficult to say with 100% certainty. You were right to duck whatever it was that they were trying to pull.

God, well said. OP, you made the right choice. They did the ol' bait and switch. I live in one of those "casual and turbulent" job markets. I have been working the same part time job at a laundromat for months because I am not going to jump into a new shitty temporary job when I have one that is actually pretty stable. Instead, I will send out 3-4 resumes per month to the few companies around here who actually have the potential to not be complete dicks to their employees.

"Here, have a set part time job"
"No, just kidding, casual hire"

bait and switch is a fucked up move for an employer to use and is indicative of the leverage that employers have in those backwater "turbulent" job marketplaces.

>> No.869587

>all these "fight fer yer rights" fags itt
If you need a fucking job and you dont have many options when it comes to employment, you take what you can get. Do you honestly think that most employers across the world give a fuck about you? Of course not. They'll treat you like shit, anywhere. That's why you must be smart, make the right moves, and become self reliant for yourself so one day you can tell them to fuck off. I imagine youre not currently in that position.

OP, even if you needed time to think about it, you should have said yes you dumb fuck. Even if you find something better, you could always just quit. Why are you so fucking stupid? What were you so busy with anyway?

>> No.869590

OP has an internet connection, electricity, and is posting from a thousand dollar piece of machinery. He isn't fucking desperate you faggot. What kind of shit mentality do you have that you think people with prospects who are in a comfortable position should be eager to shovel corporate dick down their throats from an employer engaging in shady hiring practices.

>> No.869597

Because I know about a million of people like OP and theyre all scumbags.

>hurr der are no jerbs, better sit at home for 2 years and smoke weed everyday

Even working a shit job is nothing but beneficial. You after all, get paid, you meet more people, expanding your search for a better position, and you get work experience. Do you honestly think someone wants to hire a scumbag who has been living off mama and papa for years because the prospective employers didnt hold his hand on the first day on the job? Jesus christ, this delusion is amazing. Shouldnt be too surprised because most chans are filled with manchildren defending this crap anyway

>> No.869629

>>869560
why do they even do this shit? do they hope that if you're desperate enough they can offer you shit you're overqualified for and you'll accept?

it's an absolutely retarded approach because in a situation like that anyone with half a brain will accept the offer but just keep searching for another job.

>If you don't sign up to be fucked in the ass by a shifty employer you're literally a pot smoking loser living off mom and dad

I just quit a part time job that tried to shuffle me to full time hours without offering benefits by misclassifying me as a part time worker filling two positions. I can do this while going to school because I have enough money saved up to live for five or six months without having to work for a dime because I save and budget.

People like you who think that everyone should bend over for dickings by any employer who should have them are like whipped curs. Loser stoners and junkies who can't or won't hold a job are like strays slowly going feral. You all blow. Purebred coming through.

you're a fucking idiot and the reason why employment benefits keep getting worse and so do the starting wages. when accepting a shit offer out of desperation the only valid move is to continue looking for another job and leaving the shit position in under a year. if not desperate, you might as well take your time and keep searching. at least you won't have a problem taking calls for interviews or going to physical interviews then.

I get what some Anon's are saying...

If I had really needed the job then yes, I should have taken it (see >>869139). That's what I did for my first few jobs and it usually worked as a foot in the door..

That being said, as some other Anon's pointed out, I've come to expect a certain level of professional communication at this stage in my life.
If a business is willing to offer and then renege on said offer within two hours, what sort of thing would've I be agreeing too?

And the fact that when I requested information on the position/s (>>869118) they continually dodged it didn't help my decision.

It's that fine line of pushing for it without being pushy and getting binned

Business has one set of rules, and life has another set of rules.

In business ALWAYS say yes. then just back out if things don't work out for you. There are no consequences to this.

> do you want this job?
sure
> will you accept x dollars?
sure
> can you perform x skill?
sure I can

etc...

Then if things don't work out, nothing was lost because a "no" wasn't going to get you anywhere anyway.

just something to remember
