Popular brokers for stock trading:
Robinhood
>commission free and no minimum to open
http://www.robinhood.com

> How is it free?
Robinhood earns revenue by collecting interest on cash/securities and fees from their Robinhood Gold service

> It's been X days, why isn't my account verified yet?
Not being approved in 3 days seems to be the new norm. Nevertheless, call/email their support if you've been waiting more than that.

> When is it coming to my country?
The only "plans" are on an Australian and Chinese beta. Neither of which has gained much traction.

Interactive Brokers
>$1 commission per 100 shares. $10k minimum to open, $3k if 25 or under. Lowest margin interest. Free API access

You can't outperform real inflation with current market conditions. Your money will devalue by anywhere between 5 to 10% per year. The global economy will crash because QE is no longer alleviating the problem. The western world is trying to put a band aid over a gash the size of the grand canyon. QE and current government finances are pissing into the wind. There will be no reserves for state funded pensions, healthcare, or even road maitinence when shit hits the fan. It will happen sooner than you think. Crypto will be adopted by those that survive the wars.

If a stock is trading @30$ and I sell a put with a strike @35$ for a total premium of 475$

It's a few things:

>yes their management is good, as is their share structure
>their growth capacity is considerably more than any other LP due to smart acquisitions early (ACB and APH have the potential to keep in this area but their facilities are not as far along in development yet)
>first LP to receive financing from a major bank
>first LP to have pulled investing interesting from a major beer company; Constellation Brands (owners of Corona).
>first mover advantage as "the biggest Canadian weed LP" both by assets and market cap

It's mainly a very good track record of smart decisions that has landed them in the position they currently hold.

I'm unironically still bullish on tech. The reason nasdaq shat the bed the last couple of weeks is because a handful of meme tech stocks that got really bubbled up (FANG, nvda, MU to name a few). The correction is expected, but it had the unfortunate side effect of dragging down a lot of solid tech plays with them as well in this mess.

Long term, tech is still king. No other industry in the US is competitive to places like China, which can just flood you with cheaper goods (no meme tariffs aren't going to do anything, people will always flock to cheap shit and one way or another they will find a way around it). However what they don't have the the technological know-how on a lot of advanced tech that US companies have.

Do some research, pick out small-med cap companies with solid technology behind them, and invest. If you do well they will get big or get bought out by big players, either way you win.

Absolutely, chip stock (and related) is still a good play long term, but both INTC and NDVA is overpriced right now, and AMD is AMD. I personally am longing TSM with a small position on INTC which i got before they bubbled hard.

Social media is dead, drop FB and TWTR if you haven't already. If anyone finds the next internet mega-trend then this is your chance.

Internet retail is going to be HUGE. But don't count on AMZN because it too is bubbled as fuck. I would long BABA if you want to buy in as the Chinese market is taking off and will be huge in the next few years. Just compare PE ratios between BABA and AMZN.

Finally, the likes of information services like GOOG and MSFT. This one is the hardest for me to read, but I think they may be peaking now, but I am not expecting a significant decline anytime soon. Big data is here to stay, just watch out for over-valuation.

Nope. This isn't crypto. You're underestimating the kind of buy pressure that comes in whenever major indices drop in a significant way.

There has to be some kind of actual catalyst for there to be a more sustained sell off on the stock markets, like the '08 housing crash. All we have now is uncertainty and fear but no specific basis. Bond yields going up, fed increasing interest rates, possible but not confirmed trade tension with China etc; none of those are enough. A for real trade war with China could do it but i'm seeing pullback from both sides to prevent that possibility. Trump's negotiation style seems to be to push push push, get everything right to the edge of blowing up, then cutting a deal before it does. Similar case happening with NAFTA.

Rate my portfolio going forward /biz/. I'm the only one I know that actively invests so comments are appreciated. I only have $1k to start investing + whatever I put in from my wage slavery.

10% bonds
20% consumer staples and utilities (looking for upwards correction on KO and some others)
20% high dividend, low beta stocks
25% "buy the dip" tech stocks that have low P/E ratios and don't look too pumped (BABA looks pretty good, avoid FB)
25% Broad market ETFs (I like VONG)

Obviously with 1k I will not hit these exact percentages and will trade around as I see opportunity. Am I over-diversifying or missing something with this?

I don't get the thinking behind "overdiversifying". I only invest in things I believe will beat the market, plus the index ETFs, I just don't know which ones will do the best so I split. Mathematically, how does this strategy become worse with more splits?

your portfolio is fine for a young person who can take risks imo. personally, I avoid high dividend stocks and go more into broad indexes and get some international exposure. the only thing is you're probably getting hammered by fees with a spread that wide and that little money. if you're using robinhood that's fine but I personally avoid buying things with less than $1000 per trade.

one thing you could have done was save up money for a quarter then make a lump purchace. lets say you save up $1k in 3 months. you put it all in VONG. then next quarter you put another $1k in VONG. next quarter you think you need bonds so you put $1k in bonds. now you have an allocation of 66% stocks 33% bonds and you want more stocks and some international exposure. So next quarter put another $1k in an international index fund and you're at 50% US 25% international, 25% bond after your first year. keep going like this and you'll hit whatever portfolio allocation you want.

I'm using Robinhood so trading and spreading myself has no cost to me. I also avoid dividend stocks as a general rule but between the markets looking worse and worse and finding some really good ones on /biz/ that have gone down recently and have a history of swinging back up to their previous value, along with pretty low betas, I think there is opportunity or at the very least consistency.

I would normally be more risky but this is in reaction to recent events, with the expectation that they either continue or get worse for the foreseeable future. I expect tech to bounce back up one more time and then most to fall with lower lows and lower highs. I'm hoping BABA is not one of them.

Its PE ratio is 144? EPS is .05? What the fuck? I like its chart, it has a history of going up from a bad dip, which has happened to it recently. If it comes back to the mid-$6s, maybe I'll pick some up. Already have a little AMRS so might as well get the /biz/ memes that actually seem to have some potential.
