To Bog or not to Bog edition

Popular brokers for stock trading:
Robinhood
>commission free and no minimum to open
http://www.robinhood.com

> How is it free?
Robinhood earns revenue by collecting interest on cash/securities and fees from their Robinhood Gold service

> It's been X days, why isn't my account verified yet?
Not being approved in 3 days seems to be the new norm. Nevertheless, call/email their support if you've been waiting more than that.

> When is it coming to my country?
The only "plans" are on an Australian and Chinese beta. Neither of which has gained much traction.

Interactive Brokers
>$1 commission per 100 shares. $10k minimum to open, $3k if 25 or under. Lowest margin interest. Free API access

TD Ameritade
>$6.95 commission per trade. No minimum to open. Fantastic data/charting through their free ThinkorSwim service

Pure green. I'm hoping this is start of trend reversal to overall bullish trend for the sector heading in to start of recreational sales late August/early September.

The conservative senators looked very foolish during debates this week. I understand that they feel the need to oppose the bill for partisan reasons. I expect them to do so. The problem is their arguments were some of the most ridiculous nonsense i have heard since the height of the US war on drugs. They may as well have played Reefer Madness it its entirety for the whole senate as their official argument.

If you hold long enough, you'll always win. For every crash you'll experience, you'll experience a boom of some sorts as well. I have data on the Dow Jones from 1921-2017 and:
Worst 30-year window 2.25% annually, best is 10% annually and average is 6.25% annually.
Worst 40-year 3.9%, best 12%, average 8%.
Keep in mind that the worst 30-year window (1929-1958) was buying right before the Great Depression.

Wouldn't recommend buying individual stocks. Transaction costs will ruin your returns, depending on the size of your transactions. I like ETF's better since some of them have yearly fees of ~0.1%. A big plus is that you can put more money in every month and still be diversified. If you want to buy 10 stocks every month, you either need a lot of money or you have to choose one every month and you'll fuck up your timing. Never trust that you can time the market. The best strategy is the dumbest strategy. I buy every first working day of the month, no exceptions.

you can do it. just zoom out for all of your decisions. theres atleast one major index or sector somewhere thats turning over every day now. set up your watchlists so you can track the underlying etf with indicators etc, and then trade the leveraged one on the big swings. thats what ive been doing and its been good. look for stuff thats massively overvalued. or things that are undervalued, or hard assets like commodities or land that will go up with inflation rising.

The majority of active fund managers can't outperform the market and if they can, they can't do it for 10+ years. If they can't, I don't think I can either since I barely spend time analyzing the market. Also, I am well aware that I am not in control over my emotions the way I want to be. If my portfolio goes down by $500 in one day, I'm happy I can buy more cheaply but I'm also sad to see my portfolio value go down. If the market goes up by 10%, I'm not confident in buying more. By having a simple/dumb strategy and sticking to it, I can avoid those problems. I've bought highs and lows with this strategy so it evens out.

what yoru saying is watch the charts on all of these things, then when they look good jump in on the leveraged ETF of that sector then get out when it is no longer a hold? It does seem like people here are much too emotional at times, holding onto stuff because 'it must moon soon' when the chart/TA/fundamentals/market sentiment are all against them. either you or somebody else earlier said 'stupidest idea is normally the best' and seems like lots of /biz/ people are overthinking shit thinking they are better than everybody else, which is probably untrue gatta be honest with your own capabilities. i just copied down a bunch of etfs and their holdings off of websites like etfdb.com and etf.com. made a chart for everything, long and short, and leveraged and put em all in watchlist tabs on my computer. i organize em and watch for dips/spikes in sectors. look a little at the underlying things going on there in that market, draw some memelines and try and make an informed decision.

yeah I told him he's a fucking moron and should at least buy bonds but blah blah blah bonds are going down due to rate hikes. and I told him that bonds are better than cash even if the rates get hiked and he should talk to a financial advisor but he said financial advisors are there to sell you bonds so he doenst trust them.

rate my autism.
been trying to do some DD on things that traditionally go up when inflation kicks in and the dollar crashes. looking for things to hold onto in my account instead of holding cash if things get bearish in a global sense. treasury bonds are usually the go-to to protect against inflation, but thats not going to work this time because we are also getting rate hikes at the same time.

so heres a couple things i found which should be good hedges against inflation. they seem to respond pretty closely to big swings in the dollar

Yep. Successful senate vote was the slap in the ass the sector needed to get out of the lull. That gutter in the chart from the past two days was risk averse investors pulling out to cash pending senate news, maybe some foolish short positions being initiated, and reaction to US market bleed. I knew this would be the case and i'm more interested to see what happens next week; whether we're looking at a steady rising trend or return to flat for a little while longer.

You are reading your 10-K's and 10-Q's, right anon?

>Hedge funds that access any 10-K or 10-Q have higher abnormal returns in the next month compared to funds that do not access filings. The result is statistically significant and economically large, representing a difference in abnormal returns of about 1.5% per year. More intensive information acquisition is also associated with higher subsequent abnormal returns, with the above-median users generating 2%-per-year higher returns than non-users.

pathetic. If you make a good investment, you should be confident in its long term potential. Minor day to day losses and bumps are irrelevant, it's about overall trend. seeing as most of amyris' current profits are from cosmetics, they still have yet to expand into the US markets, and women will buy cosmetics right up until nuclear holocaust, i think there is potential that it will greatly outperform the major overvalued shit.

think about it, AMRS is cheap already, its gaining steam with its fundamentals, and its market is a new one, where it doesnt have any real competition. in contrast, big blue chip shit is super overvalued, and because its been so heavily speculated on for years, it is very sensitive to all this crazy geopolitical drama and FED tightening.

i think looking for stuff that will be profitable through these times will be immensely rewarding.

Nothing will moon when the general market is tanking this hard. AMRS did remarkably well today just by closing flat. When fear grips the market, people no longer care about fundamentals, just like hysteria. It's worse since this happened on a Friday, the Monday morning sell off will cement this as the start of a bear market. I just pray it doesn't last too long. But I agree with you once the fear is over, AMRS will do really well, still a solid long term hold IMO.
