How to dress to impress at my first job?

So basically I have a pair of Unis khakis and clarks desert boots which are nice enough but not really remarkable at all, what's something I could get that isn't gaudy but could make a good impression? Would it be austicstic to drop like a couple thousand for a nice watch or some Gucci clothes?
