Definitely start in Ushuaia. It's the biggest city in the area so you'll pretty much have to start there anyway since that is likely where you will land. I went there in 1998 and it was awesome. I still can't get over the incredibly bizarre landscapes. It was almost like being on another planet. I hope you get to go bizbro! You won't regret it. The people are all very friendly and there is very little crime. I actually plan to move there once I make it if things get shitty (shittiER) here in the US.

I recommend a trek in the Nepalese Himalaya- you can do round trip ticket and all expenses paid for like $2k, and you could easily do a 1-2 week trek. Adventure of a lifetime.
