/comfy/ thread

Times are tough, but you're still breathing. Let's set aside the blockfolio and take a break.

I like how /comfy/ has changed meaning from "feel content that our investments are profitable and our futures secured" to "let's ignore our financial ruin"

You can always feel comfy in your heart desu. Not good to depend on money for happiness, it comes and goes like anything in life.

Don't just zoom out on the charts, zoom out on your life. We all have good days and bad days, and these are some pretty bad days. The good days will come again.

This. Money isn't everything. It was in December for me, but I since switched to a hybernating mode where I don't have to eat, drink or work and just enjoying nature outside, enjoying life and being happy.

told my brother last night about my holdings

he didn't say I should sell, but he was pretty shocked at how much I've already risked and how much my investment is down

I told him how much I'd have if all my coins hit their ATHs and his jaw dropped; he asked what I would buy if that happened and I said "bitcoin" and of course he recommended I go buy some stupid automobile instead

meanwhile he was supposed to start his ira months ago but still hasn't done it

It feels good to know that for once in my life I've taken a risk with my money that could pay off for the future. I don't need that money right now. I hope my brother will wisen up and at least start his retirement fund and get in some stocks like he's wanted to for years. And I'm glad I've taken my own first steps with my crypto and my 401k

This
I haven’t been investing crazy money, just every time I deny myself something I don’t need like expensive drinks out or a 12 pack on my way home from work or that 20th pair of jeans or a Postmates delivery.. I just put that money into crypto instead. I just started so not very impressed but figure taking the risk and buying low may pay off. Really..it just feels good being proactive

Zoom out. How is the larger picture in your life? What is your frame?

I love my trade. I started going to the gym recently and have been making some decent progress towards getting /fit/. My teeth have been fucked up for a long time but I finally started going back to the dentist. My goal EOY 2018 is to up my skill set, still be going to the gym 4-5 times a week, and make good headway getting my teeth fixed.

I tell you this as someone who used to be 300 lbs, couldn't find a job anywhere, and had no clue what to do in life. Even walking 1 block, I would feel like death. I lost 125 pounds, and at one point 3-4 years ago I walked 25 miles at random just for fun.

The thing I am most thankful to crypto for is severing whatever ties, obsessions, and emotional attachment I had left to money. It is a very useful and effective tool but only with the right mindset. It is otherwise shackling and destructive.

I am still up 90%. I'm sure there is plenty of room for this market to move up in the near future. Maybe it will crash even more. The summer of 2017 was a lot harsher for me. Being down 90% is not fun.

That's really awesome anon.

I couple of months ago I cashed out a tiny amount of my crypto and started taking some art classes. I've always spent my time in front of a computer, always boxed myself in as a tech person for work and for leisure, but I decided to branch out a bit. It's been really rewarding to have that creative outlet, and I hope to continue it after those classes end. I've been exercising a lot more too, so between that and the art I've started to feel a lot better about myself.

Money's important in our society but if we take a step back we should realize that there are maybe some more important things for our body and mind than just that social construct that hasn't even been around for all of human history - it's not an intrinsic part of being human. Of course we need it right now for food, shelter, and leisure, but there are plenty of other things we shouldn't neglect as well. I feel so much better now that I've been doing those other things.

That's cool. Any particular kind of art? It is funny you mention being "boxed in". I was a tech guy too. I got sick of it and decided to go into toolmaking.

Money is a measure of wealth as a ruler is a measure of objects. True wealth to me would be things like food, land, trees bearing fruit, a stream, and a capable workshop. Art is wealth. Good programming is wealth, as is a truck that can haul significant burden. Some gaudy luxury item? No.
