You'd think so but that's not how it works. Often with stocks or coins (they behave the same in this regard) a pile on of shorts near the bottom of a correction/crash leads to a short squeeze, causing price to shoot up faster than it would have without the short positions. This is much the same as people fomoing in at or near all time high, long squeeze, price plummets extra fast.
