Hacker hacks API keys.

Pump the shit out of VIACOIN (max was 10,000%).

Puts high sell orders before.

Knows this would crash the market and then dumps it on bitmex, margin shorting.

A lot of people are hypothesizing that the hacker did pull something like this on BitMex, but you need to remember that BitMex doesn't have unlimited funds either, and if he did went for an insane amount like 500 million, he would be found out in seconds. Bitmex is heavily botted - it's one of the things that makes me mistrust that site, it's so manipulated it's insane. If the hacker(s) (I think it was a team, probably from Eastern Europe) were running a scam stealing accounts, they probably had the means to bot up a bunch of Bitmex accounts, and spread their lootz among them, and take maxxed out positions. There's no way one person could set up any of this on their own. For all anyone knows, they could have been wash trading because Bitmex allows that, and they'd cover their asses if the scam fell apart too early.

Or, I'm wrong. Too early to tell - but this was big, coordinated, and almost certainly was more than one person.

See, this is what you risk in unregulated markets. I'm sure this isn't the last one, either. But you retards keep think the big banks are buying into a market that can be ripped off this easily, lol. Institutional money - which wasn't poised to enter the market anyway - will look at this and determine that crypto is a good way for them to lose their jobs, and crash their companies. LOL. what you guys need to realize is that if bitmex was used, they probably didn't make as much as you think.
any positions on bitmex had to have been taken before the binance hack occurred in order to capitalize on the dump form the hack.
additionaly, the hacked would not yet have had access to the fund from binance hack to take position with, before the dump happened.
bitmex trades contracts, not BTC, as evidenced by the difference in volume on bitmex vs the data from exchanges.

it is likely that those responsible for the hack used bitmex, to profit even more, but they would have had to dump the money they stole asap in order to get away with it before binance could lock everything down and to move the market as trades on bitmex futures contracts to move the btc market.
because of this, they likely had limited funds to take positions with, and while profiting heavily from taking positions then manipulating the market buy dumping btc stolen from the the binance hack

although there is a small chance, but its highly unlikely, that the binance hack was just used to manipulate the market by dumping btc as the hackers knew they wouldn't be able to move their funds off of binance before the bianance team pulled the plug and instead used leveraged futures trading from bitmex to make their money, but that seems like a very poor return on the investment that a hack on this scale would have needed
