Not a crypto related thread; What are those fancy and cool looking jobs in the finance industry really like? Has anyone here ever worked in investment banking/private equity/hedge funds and wants to share his experience? Is it as cool as in the movies?

No.

you find out that you can sit in a desk chair and stare at a screen for much longer than you ever thought possible.

Fuck no. It's overrated. For a better salary than most do you think you want to work overtime for Mr shekelstein?

unlikely because i already stare at my screen 16 hours a day

What were you working in? I know that the actual work itself must be pretty boring and you have a lot of hours until you've climbed up the coporate ladder but there must be something to it other than fancy buildings and suits, right?

Stressful, alcoholic inducing, low life expectancy, prone to stress related disease, lots of social pandering/ass kissing/back stabbing. But you get to wear a suit and make almost as much as a crypto trader.

It's a lot of fudging cash flow models and verbalizing financial results. "In 2017, X Company achieved a profit margin of 3.5 percent, up from 2.7 percent the year prior, due to a combination of reduced overhead expenses and lower bonus payouts."

Yeah, thats what I've heard too. But is there anything more to it (other than good salary)? I mean 9/10 guys going into finance careers don't care about this stuff, it's not like profit margins and stocks are their passion. They want the status, money, power and exclusiveness we see in movies. But are those things even real?

>tfw your three best friends from college are working at - goldman, PE firm, hedge fund
>im unemployed for 1.5 years (why did i pick marketing??? permanent pink wojack)
>havent hung out with any of those guys for almost a year cuz they're so fucking busy

fuck me lmao. PE and hedge fund friends are the youngest at their firms so they're responsible for keeping the old farts informed on crypto.

hedge fund friend gets ridiculous private lunch catered every day. lobster rolls and shit. he claims its some of the best food he's had in his life, but there's dudes in the firm that complain daily about how shit the catered food is.

from the sound of it, they basically just run models all day exactly like this guy claims >>8180967
