My man there was presumably an exploit which allowed access to your account through the API generation algorithm on Binance. The wallets were drained directly from their withdrawals hot wallet, no login required. That's also why 2FA didn't help - it's just a check mechanism to allow interaction with your funds in their hot wallet through the exchange UI.

also important to note is that I've recently seen a significant increase in the spam posts and threads promoting the sale and download of trading bots, and all posts/threads looked very similar, using a set of images repeatedly, and wording, in one case, if I recall the spammer forgot to change IPs and so the OP and the positive comments all had the same ID

and let this be a lesson, never use a bot unless you programed it yourself, (from scratch, not just modifying an existing bot) or if you copy code from a bot, don't download it (never download a bot) and make sure you go through and understand every single line of code so you can make sure you are not including anything malicious instead of just modifying parameters or inputs/outputs

get a good password manager and malware detection software.
Create a strong password to get into your password manager, and use the manager to generate the strongest possible random password, and change them often.

this creates a single point of failure, but it is still generally more secure if done properly.

also, create encrypted USBs that you store in multiple locations, best to use at least one safe deposit box and back up the passwords from your password manager into the USB's on a regular basis just incase.
of course, back up the manager only when disconnected from the internet, best to run a virus scan before as well, and then make sure to securely delete the backup file from your comp after moving it to the USB(s)

the single point of failure is mitigated by using a strong password manager, not handing over data to third parties (some password managers store your passwords for you in encrypted cloud/offsite servers), and changing the main password on a regular basis, as well as following proper password safety protocols for generating the main password for the password manager.

I switched to a password manager after waking up to alerts from Gmail saying someone from russia tried to log into my account using my password. they had my password but luckily google stopped them due to the strange IP info. I immediately ran a virus scan, and got a password manager and changed all passwords to a randomized sequence of letters/numbers/symbols with a min length of 30 characters using the strong random generator built into the manager.

you should also do some more research about digital security in general

>> No.8187900

I'd guess that the bot doesn't actually have to have been used. best way to run this attack would be to create something that downloaded some kind of malware that was invisible/hard to find when you download the bot.
that way you don't actually have to compromise a bot, or get the targets to set up and run the bot either.
for all the attacker cares, they can just put a blank file in the download link and name it "bot"
with that approach, it also increases the likelihood of someone who downloaded it to delete the file and forget they ever downloaded it pretty quickly leading to uncertainty as to the source of the attack.
the hidden program is then what exploits your account by generating an API key which is linked to a program the attacekr has to gather and implement API keys and execute the needed trades.
that way it can all be done in a few minutes or less, which is what the VIA chart shows. a massive pump lasting under 2 min
