Ok biz, give it to me straight. What are some REAL jobs you can get with a STEM college degree? Everyone always pushes for the coder meme job, but I feel like there's something out there that they don't want you to know about. As if the coder meme job is a distraction to herd the sheep away from the real money. Do you guys know of any REAL jobs for a college graduate?

hmm why would software be more valuable than something else?

well op, say you're a mechanical engineer, you have to produce something physical. You can't produce copies for free, you have to pay for labor and material

therefore, the reason people say muh coding meme, is because its in general, the most lucrative field. Not to say other people can't make a lot of money, but due to the fact you only have to produce software once, it's more lucrative in general.

Friend is working in company that install and services fire protection systems for factories/schools/etc. Good money, with no degree he started making more than junior programmers. Company is now looking for people who can service more complicated systems to get even better contracts. That said the job is quite demanding as you spend most of your week far from home going from one side of the country to another.

Second one I've heard about is specialist who designs casting molds is supposed to have really lucrative contracts, but i'm only heard about one of those guys so YMMV.

And there is always the oil rig worker/technician in Alaska...
