theoretically its price will rise on its other pairs too thanks to arbitrage traders

This. Arbitrage opportunities usually even out within minutes if it is all with teh same coin on the same exchange. I arbitrage traded the fuck out of BNTY and DBC in december and turned the $50 i sent to kucoin to buy BNTY into $700 easy.

Yeah this.

OP, think of it like this:

If someone is going to pump an alt/Eth pair, one way of finding an arbitrage opportunity is to convert all other pairings to their Eth value as well.

Example: If alt_X/Eth is pumped, convert alt_X/Btc to the Eth value (or, more specifically, its own alt_X/Eth value).

If you find that the pair you just converted from Btc to Eth is cheaper than the actual alt_X/Eth pair's value, then you should buy alt_X with Btc, then sell alt_X for Eth.

In the given example, you would also have to account for the fiat value of both Btc and Eth, and see whether or not it's actually a profitable plan overall, in fiat terms. Transaction costs/delays are also a thing.
