Hey guys, I just hired a freelancer to develop a mobile app for an idea that I believe will go viral as long as I stick to my marketing plan. The freelancers rate is $33.33 per hour for 100 hours of work. Did I make a stupid mistake or did I just take a risk towards success?

Oh man, what a mistake!

Also, how stupid!

What kind of contract did you write up?

Just going off what you mentioned, ~$3k is a pretty reasonable price to contract someone to build a mobile app for you depending on the exact functions of the app.

Just a basic contract stating that he will finish the app in about 2 weeks. He signed an NDA with me and all that other stuff.

are people there actually willing to put in the time and effort to develop a working app on mobile phones?

No, don't listen to that faggot. You'll get scammed by Indians for shitty broken software.

Nah, most of the coders there provide shit like
>I'll fix your wordpress bug for $5!

There are people you can contact through there who might develop your app, but not for $5. That site is mostly good for things that would take a skilled person around an hour to do, like creating a generic looking logo, making some simple graphics, etc.

You did fine OP. This is an alright deal.

Then you should be solid. You didn't pay all upfront did you? Sometimes a 25% (or even 50% if the person is proven to be good) down payment is customary, but I hope you didn't get suckered into more than that.

That's really the only issue I can see. Why do you think you just made a stupid mistake? As I and others have pointed out, you got a pretty good deal.

Even if you got someone overseas, you wouldn't have saved that much more, and if you did find someone to develop an app for less than a grand, it better be a simple as fuck app or be prepared to be disappointed with horribly buggy software.

Thanks, and no my card will be charged an amount every week and he will be working 50 hours over the course of 2-4 weeks for me.

Cool, you should be good. If you're really paranoid and aren't too strapped for cash, you can hire another trusted programmer (if you know any, or you can just hire another random dude) to do reviews of his code on a weekly basis.

I don't really track how much time I spend reviewing code, but I want to say that a 10:1 ratio would work. i.e the guy works for 50 hours, and you spend at least 5 hours reviewing the code.

It's not necessary, but that's just if for whatever reason you feel off about your guy and you want to make sure he's doing good work.

Oh, and I'm assuming that the guy you hired is pushing all of his code into a repository that you have access to and you're not just expecting to not see anything until he's 100% finished.
