Has anyone else here noticed the correlation between "personal trainers" or "fitness coaches" and also being part of MLM groups?

The personality traits are probably very similar

My guess is that trainers like being looked up to...they've achieved physical success and they like the admiration of anyone who is out of shape...or at least they believe so. I think people with great physiques make all of us envious. But, that's the height of their achievement. Similarly, MLM people seem to create an image which 1) attracts people from whom they will receive money from (I guess personal trainers do this as well...doing whatever it takes to retain clients who have no discipline) and 2) they draw esteem from...somehow believing they're doing something impressive or otherwise validating their life struggles.

I guess at bottom, there is a strong tendency (or necessity) to be--perhaps overly--narcissistic. And, to people like you and I, it's clear there is absolutely no substance behind them.

Heh.

A buddy of mine somehow found his way into an interview with these guys. I guess they coaxed him into giving my number out before he realized it was silly.

I got a phone call with very vague information. It's been some time, but as best I can recall, they said that they would like to interview me for a CSR call-center job.

Well, I got there and it was mostly uneducated-sounding black folk that saw an ad on craigslist and hit that shit up. For the hell of it, I guess I decided just how lucrative I could make myself appear.

It wasn't hard. I "got the job", naturally, since I was probably the only reasonably-literate person in there. It was nice for my interviewing skills, I suppose.

But oh god, it was absolutely horrific to sit through. Just fucking awful.

The only part that made me upset was the initial call was based upon a bald-faced lie. There was no CSR position, and there was no call-center. Only commission-based bullshit set up to gather information on potential clients before the wiser people get the fuck out, leaving the jackasses that might actually give it their best shot.

Pity.

I love reading this thread, i'm actually active in an MLM company. It's everything you guys think of it and more!
the reason I stay is because it doesn't cost me anything so I'm not losing anything.
also:
- I don't recruit, unless friends with the same goal as mine ( not recruited anyone yet )
- the product itself is legit
- the company itself is legit
- I learn a fucking lot ! these guys will pay for seminars, guest speakers, everything...
- Incentives... a fucking lot too! everything from vacations to festivals
- it's self-employed so i get to write of a lot of shit I would have bought anyway
- it fits nice on my resume, no matter what job you're going for, "coaching a group of 5 people" goes... also: "entrepreneuring" goes for every job worth interviewing for.

why I want to quit every fucking day
- these pieces of shit tricked me into it
- the people that start up right now are illiterate fuckwits who don't even speak the language how it's suposed to
- those fucking motivational shit i receive on fb makes me cringe so hard
- i have to explain this post to every person that is smart enough to know MLM is bullshit and asks me why i do it.

tl;dr good for students who like to learn a lot and build on their NEXT carreer
bad for people who think this is a carreer

So basically "friends" who are dumb enough to give you their trust. How nice of you.

I would be perfectly fine with this since it's similar to the 419 scam of taking advantage of idiots, but this one is a bit different. It actually goes for the poor and doesn't help them in anyway other than making their situation worse.

Your second point is also true, but i don't think it's relevant. They don't have to trust me with shit, i give them an option to do something, on which i don't make money by the way, they do whatever they want with it...

It's not the old kind of pyramid sheme where you have to buy in and earn on other peoples buy-ins... you just sell stuff to people and the people that signed you up get a share. I'm not in it for the money, just the experience, like i stated in the first post

Long story short
>We meet up at Public Library few days later
>He brings his laptop
>I know what's up already
>Tell him if this is anything similar to 5Linx I will be walking out without saying a word
>He says it's not and shows me video with Donald Trump backing it
>Tells me EXACTLY what you just said
>I tell him I'll get back to him
>6hours later he texts asking if I made my mind up
>I tell him give me time
>13hours same shit
>I tell him to fuck off

24hrs later he wants to return the phone because it "doesn't work" with his "cellular company".

Look up ACN, he lured me in seeing that I sold alot of phones on Craigslist and made a decent amount of money doing so (before the whole Apple update fucked my biz up).

I used to buy Bad Esn phones and send them in to some guy on eBay for $50 each. He would send me a new phone in return.

I had like 20 phones on Craigslist at any given time and this guy Greg (Business Dude) saw I ran a biz so he contacted me asking for a phone like a regular customer.

Then he started calling me a "smart guy/entrepreneur" that needed a "boost".

The ACN scam is exactly what this guy >>781248 just said. You're not selling anything but providing services to people to "save money". When in fact you're just lining people up to get fucked. No. That's how it works at the top of the pyramid. The further down you go, the less recruits you'll get and the less of the total profits you end up seeing. It's just a question of how long you can sell the dream of early success while simultaneously selling people at a level where they WILL lose out.

Theres not much to understand, the real scamming pyramid is just asking for a buy in of a certain amount and let the people you recruit do the same.

Then you have those herbalife things that just sell things downward for more money ( also legit but i think thats more prone to people scamming costumers )

What i do is commission based, i sell something and everyone in the ranking gets a certain amount of commission.

This one is a little more complicated because the product that are sold are not consumer products. Insurances don't have a "break even" amount...

What happens is: imagine the top of the system is person a one down is b and so on, i am f for example, i sell a product and get 10 buck, the person above me ( e ) sells the same product and gets 20 bucks.
But since he recruited me, he also gets the difference between my 10 and his 20, which is 10.
this means that the amount that the company is paying for the product to be sold is fixed, no matter what the ranking is at wich its sold.

It's hard to explain but easy to understand.

I think the hard thing to set up such a scam is making it all legal. To do that you have to make sure there is no victim ( wich is usually the bottom line ). In the company i work for thats not the case, since the bottom line just sells insurances and earns money

Amazon is not better, they close your accounts and start selling your shit behind their "Fulfillment" center. It's happened to various people. Once they suspend you, they ask who your supplier is "for security reasons". Making you think they are just going to ask them in an undercover way if the items you sell are real/fake. Butt then they start buying from them...and you start fighting an uphill battle.

eBay does it
>>772216
>>772218
>>772220
But does it in a much more complex way (hiding behind other accounts)

With the new split from Paypal, I think they are going to sell eBay to Alibaba

5Linx is kinda old, unlike the new scams that don't make you sell physical products, 5Linx makes you sell phone services/etc under their name. Still remember when we had a 5linx home phone (it's basically VOIP).

5Linx is more for African Americans, as Herbalife is to Hispanics.

>> No.781999

>>781965
6 or 7 years ago I went to a 5linx seminar. The co-worker who invited me was absolutely certain that he was going to be a millionaire in the next 10 years and me and another worker to go. The seminar was about 1.5 hours of "GET PSYCHED!", "You're going to be Rich!", "This is the opportunity of a lifetime!" They even had obvious plants in the crowd (which was about 50 - 60 people in size) that would excitingly tell the people around them how they are so ready and going to sign up for the most expensive packages immediately. The main product they were selling was video phones. They were not cheap. In order to get the product line available to you, you had to pay something like $750. Then you had to sell video phones, and/or recruit people to join 5linx to sell the video phones. It took something like recruiting 3 people, each selling 4 video phones to break even. They had several success stories speak about how much money they are making and the main guy showed off the keys to his Bentley and Rolex watch. The crowd was full of struggling people who were desperate to make some extra income. There was not much of a Question / Answer session, just at the end, high pressure to give up your credit card and "start your own business to be rich." It was a pretty eye opening experience and l felt dirty afterwards.

The co-worker that invited me quit the job soon afterwards, never heard from again, he was deep in the system. The other co-worker who went afterwards talked about how desperate he was and how all his money was currently going to child-support and I kind of talked him out of signing up.

tl-dr: Pyramid Scheme.

Well, technically there is a product involved in MLM, but it's not the focus.

I'm in love with this thread. Are they good documentaries on MLM or pyramid schemes? I've only watched the Bullshit episode of it.

So is she a serial MLM ? How the fuck does this happen? Surely you would realise after the first one but then again, maybe it's just a downward spiral.

>all of them just so happen to also be "personal trainers".
I've got no facebook friends in MLM but a lot of them are "personal trainers". One of them in particular is competent (he definitely looks the part) but the others as skinny af.

Why didn't you stay to explain to your friend why it's bullshit? Were you afraid you'd be sucked in?

>We'll see anon, you might be doing well at a good uni but I'll drop out and become a billionaire like Mark Zuckerberg. I'll make the new Facebook.
God, I hate these cunts and I feel sorry for them. I just want to put them out of their misery.

>Was struggling badly enough that I was mostly living off potatoes, unemployed, going nowhere and with rent due in 3 weeks.
>Of all the jobs I apply for, the most promising is a post as a salesman.
>Go to the interview, only man wearing a suit, interviewed and asked to try a day in the field, all seems good.
>I go out with my team/teamleader, we're selling internet/phone packages. Stopping people in shopping centres etc.
>I don't sell anything but apparently the team leader is impressed, I get the job.
>"So Anon, is there any questions you've got?"
>Jokingly say that I've got rent due, and when my first wage comes in.
>Find out it's commission only.
>First bunch of sales go "through" your team leader, they get them basically.
>"Don't worry anon, you're leader material, you'll have your own team in 3 months and that's where the real money starts"
>Have absolutely no other choices at that moment, try to make it work for 2 weeks.
>Rent due in one week, I quit having made absolutely no money but spent about 13 hours a day doing this.
>Lost money, actually, due to having to borrow money from a friend to pay for transport to this place every day.

It wasn't quite MLM, I know a lot of salesmen start off on commission only, but the entire think stank of poor people who were desperate for a job, and I'll not forget how much that job fucked me.
Ended up moving back in with parents when I couldn't make rent. Glad that's over. Doing shitloads better now.

i had an acquaintance that i haven't spoken to in years contact me out of the fucking blue asking me if i wanted to make (their exact words:) "the next facebook"

webdevs always get these sort of dumbasses hitting them up, asking them to work for free on a "facebook but with babby pictures" in exchange for shares in said network
