I have an idea for a forum/social network site that could be a success.
Knowing nothing about building a website, what should be my first step? Can I create it on Wordpress myself? Looking over, it seems quite easy.

Depends on your programming experience. If you have none, I'd say give wordpress or squarespace a go. If you have some experience, I'd look at frameworks like telescope.
