you can't tell, but someone explained it this way:
The large number is the dollar amount liquidated, divided by leverage. So if the amount is 3,089,000, then the person lost that much dollars if they had no leverage, or 1/10th of that if they had 10x leverage, or 1/100th that amount if they were fully leveraged at 100x.

im too stoned to explain, basically allows you to make more money by borrowing money, but you also have increased risk, so if the price goes against your position then you end up getting liquidated that much quicker than if you weren't leveraged. wew someone else try.

Thanks, googled it anyway and understand it now.

So when you get "liquidated"; i.e. all your position gets closed and you lose everything, how is that 'liquidation point' determined? Like does the exchange just arbitrarily say "Okay, we're willing to risk loaning you 'x' dollars, but we're putting a stop-loss at a 4% drop' or something like that?

I also love the 4chan kiddies who post over there who don't understand what's going on there, what contracts are. They just sit there and parrot the guys above.

Meanwhile, red dildos are sprouting like weeds...

How retarded do you have to be to get liquidated shorts right now???

>> No.7751162

>>7751070
You get liquidated at the point where paying back the exchange brings you to zero. So for a 100x long that would be a 1% dip from your buy price.

Spend at least a month watching the charts, and go lurk in Bitmex chat, and watch Bitmex videos on YouTube. If you have to ask, you're not ready for the sharks in that tank, not even close. I know how it works over there, and I wouldn't even consider putting real money into that craps game.

brainlet here. how do you read this? is the first number the total invested, and the second the value it was sold at?

>> No.7751202

>>7751070
its based on how much cash you have. if you open a leveraged trade and you start losing money on it, then you are liquidated when the amount you have lost on that trade is equal to the amount of cash (or other assets e.g. stocks) you have in your account.

It's not as bad as it looks. When you see shit like "Sell 3,000,000 @ 10500" that probably just means someone put up $30k on 100x margin. They didn't lose $3million, they just lost $30k.

Indeed, it could be a lot worse.

Not 10x though, that would take a 10% drop in price to get liquidated, and the price hasn't quite dropped 10%.
