What is your risk tolerance?
Low = stay the fuck out of crypto
Medium = stay the fuck out of crypto
High = BTC, ETH, XMR
Extremely High = various shitcoin, personally I'm still keen on ARK.

Forget mining, it was barely profitable in 2014 when I did it and unprofitable now unless you can make massive outlays in a country with very cheap power.

What would potentially make mining more profitable? Other than a crash in GPU prices.
