They help you get your first job easier but that’s the biggest leg up.

It's bigger on the east coast than anything. Assuming you don't pick a shit tier public uni, your college doesn't matter. What matters is the skills you have when you get out and start looking.

I will say that if you stay in the city of the school you graduated from, the people you know from school will be valuable connections when you need to find a job.

I assume you're talking about some public unis and not assuming all public schools are shit. Generally each state has one or two that are great. For example Florida has UF and Florida State, but everything else is shit. UCF is borderline now
