Try to help a brainlet understand staking

I'm interested in Vechain since they are supposed to be implementing staking around June, but I'm having trouble understanding what that is exactly. What I know so far is that on PoS coins when you hold the coins in the wallet you get paid based on how much you have. Anyone want to fill in anything I'm missing here?
Also, when Vechain launches Thor, what are the chances Thor's price goes to the levels GAS is at right now?

Every single VEN(VET after the re-brand) will generate Thor at this rate: 0.00042 THOR Power/VET/Day
This rate can be changed with voting but thats an other topic.

There is 4 type of masternode:

Thrudheim Masternodes
Requires minimum 250,000 VET
*+75.2%
+30% on all Thor consumed on the network


Mjolnir Masternodes
Requires minimum 150,000 VET
*+75.2%

Thunder Nodes
Requires minimum 50,000 VET
*+57%

Strength Nodes
Requires minimum 10,000 VET
*+38.7%

*This extra % comes from the Fundation.
The fondation itself will allocate 150million VET to generate THOR power and this will be given to the node holders.
This allocated amount will be decreased every 6month by 25million until 2019 december 31.
We still don't know whats going to happen after that. Worst case scenario we won't receive any extra % and everyone will generate the same amount of thor(based on the amount of VET they have).

p.s.: Thrudheim Masternodes(only 101 exist) will receive 30% of all thor power used on the network and the rest(70%) will be burned. This won't change.
