Lift 4x a week minimum and eat cleaner. I guarantee you'll have more energy, feel better about yourself, have more confidence, and overall enjoy life more. That's at least what I experienced after going from fat to /fit/.

I'm skinnyfat (borderline underweight BMI) so I'm deluding myself that I'm in not that bad shape while deep down I know that I'm a mess. What supplements do you take?

You don't need supplements, just a good workout routine and consistency. Make sure you eat enough clean protein (things like beans and chicken). Also be aware that putting on muscle takes a LOT of time, so don't get discouraged if you haven't reached your goal body right at the start. Pic related took me about 4 years to get.

I'm a lazy chubby slob but good job, anon. Wish I had your dedication when it comes to stuff like this.

It's not about dedication or even motivation, all of that is BULLSHIT. Motivation will leave you when you need it most. What you really need is discipline; the ability to keep going when you REALLY don't want to. It applies to more than jsut lifting, too: don't want to study? Do it anyways. Don't want to read your book? Do it anyways. Don't want to learn social skills? DO IT ANYWAYS. Discipline is a learned skill and muscle, you need to train it.

we're similar in height, i'm 5'10 and aiming at your weight, currently 133lbs. I mainly want to feel better, i had a period of 3 months were I ate clean and worked out at home, nothing much but it helped a loooooot. but i've fallen behind in the last year and can't force myself to get out of this self hating spiral

Being healthy is a lifestyle, anon. You need to be consistent with it. Think of how good you felt eating healthier and working out, and now imagine that feeling intensified x3. That's what it feels like after 2-3 years of consistency. The more fit you are, the more muscle you have, the healthier you eat, all of that contributes to how GOOD you feel. Not to mention the massive boost to confidence and self esteem. Trust me anon, it is so fucking worth it. Make the choice to be healthy.

Not him but I worked out at home for a year or too and I think it actually helped more to get started than if I had got the gym immediately.
I was already in decent shape from years of swimming and other sports at times.
But when I started doing pushup and pull-ups sets every day for 8 months I got that neat V shaped torso physique.
When bodyweight only started being easy I filled my backpack with books for an added 10 or so kgs weight.

Just do this Anon, you don't even have to feel awkward going on a gym.

If you're looking for aesthetics read up on the PPL routine. If you do it right it'll give you a very balanced physique. If you want to get strong before becoming aesthetic, do something like Starting Strength (but make sure to add in isolation exercises for the muscle groups it neglects) for 4-6 months before moving on to PPL.
Some random tips for those of you who've never lifted weights:

Watch Youtube videos to learn proper form for EVERY lift. You may think it's just moving a weight around, but the movements are far more technical than they look and learning proper form will allow you to progress MUCH faster. Some good Youtubers are Buff Dudes, AthleanX, and Bradley Martyn.

If you're trying to put on size/muscle, you NEED to eat a lot of food. I mean a SHIT LOAD. If you currently eat 3 full sized meals a day, start eating 5 full sized meals a day with snacks in between. You should feel full pretty much all day.

Don't neglect cardio. At the bare minimum, go for a light run or use the stair master 2x a week. This will give you more endurance for lifting and makes you FEEL a lot healthier.

Whatever muscle group you're working, flex the living SHIT out of it through out the entire range of motion for the lift. This will develop mind-muscle connection (VERY IMPORTANT) and will allow you to get stronger and bigger much faster. So if you're doing curls, for example, you should be squeezing your bicep as HARD as you possibly can all the way up, and all the way down.

Bodyweight exercises are good for starters because they can help you develop mind-muscle connection, but you really can't put on muscle with them. You need weighted resistance.
