Operations management. I still wanted to have a hand in the dirty work. I kinda regret not getting an MS or PhD in my field but MBA opens too many doors when it comes to salary. Can't turn away from that.

That's the thing with engineering. Great entry level but you plateau very quickly.

Most computer science curricula teach programming.

The difference between the two is that software engineering emphasizes practices and standards for software development, where as computer science focuses more on the theoretical aspects of problem solving and computability.

Computer science is typically more mathy and involves less programming, though usually still involves a lot.

Worst mistake of my life was not applying myself in high school. Literally never did my homework once in high school (automatic 20-30% drop in grade for each class) so I coasted by. Now I go to a shitty public school that no one has even heard of and is surrounded by tons of better schools, especially for econ-based majors. The Greek life here is basically non-existent because there's no actual Greek housing around here so it's just a shitty social club that lives in the dorms and campus apartments like normies. No notoriety, no fun, shit degree. It's all my fault that I'm here but god damn this sucks. If I wasn't already a senior next year, I'd just transfer to UMD.

If no to either, you got an objectively shitty degree.

BTW, all engineering, programming and everything except "full stack web and web development" is completely useless at the moment due to only very select areas of the world having enough reputation to complete with India and China for code factories.

Just... wait... for the web to realise it's going to be best local and for local industry to realise that their entire business can be run by bots, unless they actually have a below average IQ, in which case their business would become the bots (a fun argument that relies heavily on the assumption that true, complete, strong AI being only as intelligent as an above intelligent human).

I graduated early and had a decent job lined up right away from OCR. At the time I was very excited to get in the workforce and to make some money. However, the joy of starting a new job fades quickly when it becomes apparent that the 9am-5pm (or 8am-7pm as it often was for me) is a real drag, especially when you have grumpy coworkers and the work you're doing isn't real challenging. I'd guess that as an engineer you'd be doing more fulfilling and engaging work if you went into the workforce.

Compared to working I much preferred being a university student. Even though I wasn't greek (and therefore wasn't very involved in the social scene on campus) I had my own small group of friends that I saw every day. Even though many of us still live in the Chicago area we don't see each other as often. It feels isolating and lonely. I honestly can't wait to be a student again.

Hope I answered your question. If not let me know and I can tell you more.

the national park service or bureau of land management might be a good place to get a job. Why not do some start-up where you take rich people on all inclusive tours of archaeological sites, first start with the U.S then move on internationally. Of course, although the management major always seems dodgy from a regional uni like Trento. Work on finding employers in Italy/Austria/Switz, it's a plus if you learn German. Try to get internships as quickly as possible.

Fellow Villanova bro here, accounting

Why you transferring to the big red? my gf goes there and its not really much better in terms of business. You will come out of Villanova with more hard skills with your major and you are guaranteed Big 4 unlike Cornell. Cornell is banking on the fact that people recognize the Ivy name and assume youre smart enough to learn anything, despite not learning a skill in college.
Nova runs the accounting industry and its getting up there for IB. Roomate is working for Citigroup now.

Save the Ivy for grad school. Villanova is unbeatable for undergrad business, primarily accounting.

Yup. Pure physics graduates, they tend to do poorly outside research world. If you do applied physics, the HR will at least give you a shot.

If you still planning on taking pure physics(for some reasons), at least take a related minor that is marketable(material science, computer programming, electronics or semiconductor technology). Don't take math as your minor

>> No.747740

LOL. jesus fucking christ, this has to be the most hilarious garbage I have read on this board.

Cornell is miles ahead of that shit school in every single aspect. You have never had an ivy league education, you have no awareness of how challenging and valuable it is. Granted, Villanova seems to have somewhat decent finance placement, but it is still much, much worse than Cornell. Not to even mention you will have to live through life with the ever present stain of that shit degree and will have more limited opportunities in general.

Cornell has a business-like program called Applied Economics & Management. Once again, Villanova is shit. stay pleb buddy.

Yes, many people are too dumb or ignorant to understand that taking on the extra debt to attend an ivy league school is worth it in the long run.

Example- I have the option to attend a generic state university on a full scholarship and study finance. My absolute best option available is probably going to be working at some fortune 500 company as a financial analyst, making 50k starting out with a 5% raise per year. And this is a best case...I know plenty of people who attend state schools and have trouble even finding a job.

Alternative 2- I am admitted by Wharton but have to pay 30k a year to attend. The 120k of debt is meaningless in the long run, considering I will have a ton of high-paying options career-wise. I have the opportunity to get an analyst position at any number of investment banks, making around ~130k my first year out of college. After that, I have a number of other high-paying opportunities ranging from private equity, asset management, corporate development, etc...

And that's not even going into how SUPERIOR an ivy league or top school education is compared to the vast majority of state universities. I have attended both, and know this from experience. You dont even need to go to college to learn a subject nowadays, pretty much every undergrad degree's curriculum can be found and learned online.

Yep the lecturer is pretty awful and he just skips whatever he doesn't like and says "oh you'll cover the maths in the tutes" which in itself is pretty stupid since I have him as my tutor and all he does is go through the answers with the assumption that you know how to do the maths.

Also, Villanova is an undergrad institution almost exclusively. The grad programs that it does have are admittedly shit on a stick, I wouldnt recommend them to anyone. Its the reason why we will never get as great as rep as schools with great med and law schools. So anybody who says that the qaulity of education is so much better at an Ivy can get fucked. Your econ prof teaching you in a lecture hall at Wharton doesnt give a shit about you compared to a prof at Villanova whose only job is to teach you.

Well I (>>744579) was a transfer from a CC who followed the TAG program, which is a program that guarantees you acceptance if you can finish 60 semesters units/90 quarter units at your CC with a GPA above 3.3.
However those 60 units must be your GE + Lower division coursework. No bullshit courses.

So basically, it wasn't really hard at all. Difficult for admissions is based more on how well you do academically and what major you're doing. For example you might have an easier time getting into say Managerial Economics over CS because CS is so completely jam packed at our school.

Pretty much any school, although you're going to have a much easier time transferring into public schools rather than private.

Thanks, that was nice to hear as I try to figure out what I'm actually trying to get out of this school.
