Starting a DBA so that I can get paid for my consultant work as a business name rather than my personal name like a real professional, but I had some worries about having a similar name. Turns out the generic-sounding consulting DBA names have been pretty much picked over. Under what circumstances can a business sue you or give you trouble for operating a sole proprietorship DBA with a name similar to theirs? For the sake of argument, say their name is "Aperture Consulting" and my name will be "Aperture Project Consulting". Should I be worried, or am I fine unless they're completely sue-crazy?
