Is anyone an electrical engineer and how has the business treated you?

In utility, not bad. Make a decent leaving out of college but it tapers off real quick. People are impressed but I think more or less anyone can get a degree if you have basic understanding of calculus. Any more questions?

Do you work for a company or is it independent?

Work for a power company. I have no reason to complain, but I do. I'm in the 10% of salaries in my age group, am leading union contractors in project, and have a company car. Boss is cool too. I hate the bureaucracy of working in a large company tho. Trying to take my experience to a start up that I've been cooking with my friends.

I said I'm in the 10% of my age group so yes. I'll tell you right now, it's not your education that will sell you, it is you. I had a 2.7 GPA, but some experience in the field so they appreciated that and I did decent on the interview. They saw I was competent and threw harder tasks at me. I recommend you don't get into the field unless you have an interest. I have seen people crack from the classes.

Pro tip: If you want instant money, join your local union and get into substation work. It's feast or famine for work, but the feast is $45 as a journeyman. Excluding overtime and benefits.

You have a local union if you're in america. It's a local union because it's just an area. You don't leave the state, you just have a new project in your local

Yes on the sales end. Its an unpleasant mix of boring and stressful but pays well.

Yeah, I do FPGAs. It's not bad. EEs get expensive toys so we don't make as much as the software guys.
