/biz/, I have a stupid idea for a trading plan. Can anybody explain me why it will fail?

>search for top 5 gainers
>maintain list of them
>drop them from the list as soon as they aren't top gainers anymore
>short them

Besides the fact that short options are a good way to get to lose your last shirt and that this idea is probably what every idiot is doing, what's wrong with it?

pro tip, if you don't understand things like delta, gamma, implied volatility and time decay, don't even consider shorting options.
