As someone who has published papers in the field, I have never found conclusive evidence one way or another. My opinion is that this reflects individual heterogeneity that cannot be adequately qualified in a population-level study; regardless, I recognise that the benefits are likely to be modest, anyway.

Wrong. Vegan diets are among the unhealthiest diets that exist. The only reason why people often get "healthier" initially is because they stop eating processed food and drinking soda.

Many vegans actually become more obese because they replace the meat with carbohydrates, which are the actual cause of obesity and health problems.

Processed meat is bad but clean, grass fed meat is perfectly healthy. Humans have known this since ancient times. The ancient greeks knew that atheletes must eat alot of meat in order to be strong. When the british were in Africa they often hired masai warriors to fight for them (who basically only eat meat and bloodmilk) because their neighboring tribes who were more agrarian were too weak and lacked endurance for combat.

In terms of modern diets, the ketogenic diet (a high fat, meat based diet with little to no carbs and sugar) is among the healthiest. Obese people on the keto diet lost more weight without excercise than people who excercised while still being on the standard American diet. This high fat diet also raised good cholesterol leveles while lowering vldl levels, or bad cholesterol. People on this diet have shown more endurance and a constant stream of energy throughout the day as opposed to carb based diets where people had spikes and crashes of energy levels.

If you were actually to go vegan without supplementation you would develop precarious anemia in 4 year or less. Essentially your nervous system would start deteriorating.

Humans evolved eating meat and it is essential to being healthy. Children raised on vegan diets are often smaller, weaker, and have lower IQs than children who eat meat. Animal products, such as eggs, are some of the most perfect and nutritious foods a human can eat.

The real problem is refined carbohydrates, sugar, and shit, corn fed meat with nitrates. Clean grass fed meat, eggs from farm raised chickens, these things are some of the best foods to exist.

>> No.6960928

seriously, who doesnt understand the carbon cycle. you are attempting to shift the conversation. the fact is that you have listed several "catastrophic" climate changes that had either no humans involved, or no modern human generated waste involved. humans could not have prevented these any more than we can prevent climate change in the modern sense. climate change is pushed by liberal news organizations as a way to make you feel guilt so that you are easily controlled.

There isn't consensus. For example (sys rev/meta analysis):
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26853923

There is also likely competing issues here. As others have noted with regards to pernicious anaemia and, in particular, intractable iron deficiencies, there are issues with the unsupplemented veg diet. An animal model (yes, not perfect, but working within the constraints of ethics here) we use shows a reduction in cardiovascular and cancer-related mortality (as per above study), but no overall decrease in mortality - we believe this is probably due to abovementioned dynamics and, importantly, a lack of microbial diversity that is to be expected with a narrower food supply. The latter of these issues tends to decrease immunological capacity (in other studies - we haven't been able to show this conclusively).

I stand by my point above with regards to non-superiority of the given choices. I don't think you're wrong at all; but the truth is simply that this is a field that is A) too individually heterogenous to draw conclusions and B) too heterogeneous with respect to conditions to draw conclusions.

I would wager this is an argument that our children, and our children's children, will have. And that's ok. That's what science is for, after all.

I was a vegan for a year and felt like shit. I forced so many beans and calories down my throat and despite eating more than I ever have, I lost 15lbs and most of it muscle. I reached a point where I was getting sick every week for two months straight before I finally started introducing animal products back into my diet. I continued to have a very weak immune system for another 6 months before my body recovered.

It went like this:

>0-3 months - great
>3-6 months - good
>9-12 months - deterioration

I really wanted it to work but I was just wasting away. I had a vegan gf at the time cooking me lots of food too. Oh well.

A whole food plant-based diet is the only diet known to reserve heart disease. You shouldn't be "modest" and moderate your intake of cholesterol, for example, because it's the only risk factor for CVD. Logically, you should eliminate it completely.

Not quite. Mediterranean is exceptionally good at preventing CVD, too, and that's by no means short of meat. That being said, my personal stance is that it's more the other aspects of the Mediterranean diet that make it superior: olive oil, nuts, fatty fish, etc.

God this is such bullshit. the us dietary guidelines changed last year because theres no fucking evidence that dietary cholesterol raises bad cholesterol in the body. It barely moves the needle on vldl level. And as far as cancer, yes PROCESSED meat causes cancer mostly because of the nitrates in it. Clean meat does not increase a risk of cancer.

The studies linking meat to cancer did not take into account what type of meat the person ate or what else they ate with the meat. A plant based diet high in carbs will lead to more weight gain and more insulin spikes.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW:The perceived notion that dietary cholesterol is associated with increased risk for coronary heart disease (CHD) has led to dietary recommendations of no more than 300 mg/day for healthy populations in the USA. This study will review the recent evidence that challenges the current dietary restrictions regarding cholesterol while it presents some beneficial effects of eggs (an icon for dietary cholesterol) in healthy individuals.

RECENT FINDINGS:The European countries, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Korea and India among others do not have an upper limit for cholesterol intake in their dietary guidelines. Further, existing epidemiological data have clearly demonstrated that dietary cholesterol is not correlated with increased risk for CHD. Although numerous clinical studies have shown that dietary cholesterol challenges may increase plasma LDL cholesterol in certain individuals, who are more sensitive to dietary cholesterol (about one-quarter of the population), HDL cholesterol also rises resulting in the maintenance of the LDL/HDL cholesterol ratio, a key marker of CHD risk.

SUMMARY:The lines of evidence coming from current epidemiological studies and from clinical interventions utilizing different types of cholesterol challenges support the notion that the recommendations limiting dietary cholesterol should be reconsidered.

https://www.ruled.me/the-ketogenic-diet-and-cholesterol/

In a recent meta-analysis published in the British Journal of Nutrition by Bueno et al, researchers investigated the impacts of very-low-carbohydrate ketogenic diets (VLCKD) on key metrics of cardiovascular health including HDL cholesterol.

The authors defined a VLCKD as a diet lower in 50g of carbohydrates – lower than the daily recommended grams of carb consumption clinicians recommend to diabetics. They included 13 randomized controlled studies with a total of 1,415 subjects. All studies took place for at least a full year and all subjects included were over 18 years old and had a BMI of at least 27.5 kg/m2. In each of these studies, VLCKD diets were compared to low-fat diets.

Overall, 12 studies including 1257 patients examined the impact of a VLCKD on HDL cholesterol. When assessing the data, the individuals assigned to a VLCKD achieved an average increase in HDL of 0.12 mmol/L.This was double the average increase in HDL of the low-fat dieters who achieved an average increase in HDL of 0.06 mmol/L.[11] As a result, the authors concluded that carbohydrate-restricted diets confer cardiovascular benefits because they improve levels on HDL in the body. [11]

Key Takeaways:A low-carb diet (<50g carb) is an effective method in raisingHDL cholesterol when compared to traditional weight-loss diets that emphasize reducing fat intake.

Recommendation:If you need to increase levels of heart-healthy HDL cholesterol, a carbohydrate restricted diet can be an effective tool.

In a study from 2009 by Brinkworth et al., researchers recruited 118 obese men and women and separated them into two groups for a year-long intervention study. The first group consumed a very-low-carbohydrate, high-saturated diet with 4%, 35%, and 61% energy from carbohydrates, proteins, and fats respectively.

This equates to about 20 grams of carbohydrates on a 2000 kcal diet per day – a more stringent application of carbohydrate restriction use than the meta-analysis above. The second group consumed primarily a low-fat diet with 46%, 24%, and 30% energy from respectively from carbohydrate, protein, and fat per day. Both diets contained an equal number of calories.

About 59% of participants completed the 12-month trial: 33 in the low-carb group and 36 in the low-fat group. Both groups lost similar amount of body weight and body fat. The subjects who participated in the low-fat intervention experienced an average increase in HDL cholesterol of 0.07 mmol/L from 1.36 mmol/L to 1.43 mmol/L. [12] This represents a4.9% increase.

In contrast, the subjects who participated in the high-fat intervention experienced an average increase in HDL cholesterol of 0.30 mmol/L from 1.45 mmol/L to 1.75 mmol/L. [12]This represents a 20.6% increase – almost four times as much as that found in the low-fat diet.

Communists do not have rights either, so you are in a similar position as pigs and cattle, to my eyes. The sounds you make are also the same to my ears. The words you type with your fingers may as well be the same as the gibberish generated by hooves mashing a keyboard.

Actually, you are lower than an animal. An animal doesn't know any better. You do.

I've got a joke for you:
>What makes hanging a communist about twice as funny as it already is?
Finding out he was also vegan.

Lots of vegans do this. A lot of the products that exist now are pretty trash-tier, but they're getting better. Pic related - nobody I've served these to could tell they weren't chicken, and everyone thinks they taste amazing.

those things are way overpriced, I don't get how plant protein costs more than animal protein

I think it's the amount of demand at the moment. The price of these things is going down as more vegans adopt. Not being vegan at this point is like missing out on crypto-wave (I'm a very late adopter to crypto myself). The other day the locksmith who fixed my door told me he's vegan, my city is filled with vegan specialty stores, vegan restaurants and cake shops, and there are more vegan options.

Pic related. Vegan burger.
