This sounds insane, but I'm really regretting not putting any effort into school.

Is it possible to rectify this at all? If so, how?

>> No.687962

You can test well on the ACT or SAT and transfer from a decent college to a better one with a good college gpa.

>> No.687963

Yes. Just do well in community college. I was on the same boat and am graduating in two months. You're golden OP.

Ok, thanks. I'm really good at doing homework and taking tests.

How high of a bar can I set? I'm willing to move if greater universities accept community college kids from their area.

NO and NO. You need to have been perfect without any fucking up to get into Harvard, Yale or Standford these days.

These schools are not taking some kid who has a 3.8 undeclared CC associates, sorry.

You can maybe pull it off if you have some great other attributes that these schools are looking for however. Like you started a homeless shelter, you found a computer security loophole in a major company;s website, you wont a Big 4 accounting competition, etc.

You legit need a 3.9-4.0 to even stand a chance at the top schools and they will take into consideration your ability to pay, believe me. If you apply for financial aide to NYU and youre not the most special snowflake in the world, they arent accepting you.

Can I at least shoot for something higher than a standard state university, or am I stuck with that because I fucked up in high school?

Here in the California it's relatively easy to go from a CC to a UC/CSU. UCLA and Berkeley are realistic goals as long as you're willing to work for it.

>> No.688053

>>688051

Definitely willing to work for it. Is it completely unrealistic to go east? I'm not trying to look down my nose at Cali, just wondering what my options are.

Are you trying to be part of the elite or political class? If so you already fucked up beyond repair by not being born into it then screwing up on your own and if not going to your states best school is all you would ever need for any type of career you can imagine, and you won't get shafted by the shitty private schools that are quite god but just prey on middle class people that have your mentality and are certainly not worth the premium you'd pay over your states flagship school.

>> No.688066

>>688053
I don't know much about East coast schools but I've read that Cornell accepts a decent amount of CC transfers. Transferring to the rest of the Ivy league schools is near impossible though.

>> No.688074

>>687971
Certain schools don't accept transfers for certain programs (I wasn't able to transfer into Purdue, ND, or Northwestern engineering programs), but other than that the sky is the limit. 3.5+ will get you anywhere. Remember: by the time you transfer you're not competing with the entire field, you are competing with fellow CC students for the seats left by dropouts.

CC is the better option anyway because colleges won't be able to fund themselves when no one is able to pay their debts in a few years and who knows what will happen then.

I knew from day one that I wouldn't get in in my life time, but I might be able to position my kids for better opportunities than I had.

So kind of, yeah.

>>688066
Sounds promising. I'll look into all the schools that will take plebs after this thread dies.

>> No.688099

Bro just do CC and then transfer to your local Uni after 24 credits. I don't even put my CC on my resume and I'm still going to get a degree in my desired field.

And another thing is if High School education was actually engaging and worth a shit, kids wouldn't be fucking around and actually learning a basis to go into college with. Shit is basically a daycare for teenagers.

>> No.688268

>>688049
Nah, maybe if you said you were working 3 jobs to pay for your mothers medical bills but then they might let you get away with a 3.5 instead of 4.2 needed in high school.

>>688060
This. I knew a kid at Yale who wasnt super smart but smart enough. His parents went to Harvard, his sister goes to Upenn. He lives in Bronxville NY (Where all the wealthy of NYC live if they want to live in an actual house with a lawn).
He did his internships at Goldman and Citigroup.

He is just an example of this elite class that goes to these schools.

Is it possible to transfer to a better college from a large state university, with a sub 2.75 GPA? I have a LOT of personal projects and unique work experience.

UF will not help you get into IB. It's a decent school, but IB is 99% about connections and all the connections are at northeastern schools.

Just apply all over NY, maybe Rutgers too.

i hope you didn't blow your wad, because your CC GPA gets reset when you transfer.

protip to you CC guys. do the bare minimum to get into the school of your choice, its literally a waste to put anymore effort into it.

a 3.9 at a CC is pretty ez tbh, It would be 4.0 but I failed a 1 cred class which is Army ROTC and I cant do that shit again. IT was like 5 years ago before I started school again.

My hs gpa at grad was a 3.2 my 1st semster and midterm grades are all A's at a top 40 uni and i have a 2210 sat and im a spic.

Will my hs gpa still hold me back from top uni's if i apply to transfer this? All the transfer acceptances rates are so low I feel the only thing i have for me is my spicness

I did but I'm not at a top school. My school is ranked decently in my country but nothing special.
I did shit in high school and almost barely passed. Went to community college and scrapped by. It wasn't until after I graduated there that I decided to go hard in school. Applied to university, got in, got transfer credits and am now one of the top in each class. I graduate next year.
It can be done but it will take more time than the direct to university approach from high school with good grades.

You squandered the opportunities you had, you admitted as such in the OP. If you're in a state that does Regents testing and you tested well, you can probably swing a better than average State University. Other than that, better prep them SATs and rev up those "why you should pick me" letters.

I was a complete fuck up in highschool, went to juvey, got expelled from one, even went to an outbound youth program for over a year.

But I scored really high on the ACT which got me into a mid tier state school, which I'll be graduating this year from with a computer science degree.

I also own a business that's grossed 20k in the past two months.
