This is agitprop (a work of fiction) is just a thinly veiled emotional appeal to nurture over nature when in reality the heritability for IQ is between 60-80% for adults and is the single best predictor of long term economic success.

The "tragedy" portrayed within this comic is that while both the boy and girl have about the same level of intelligence the boy was more successful because he grew up in a wealthier family. The artist is clearly a child emotionally and hasn't yet come to terms with the fact that equity is a 20th century fantasy that cannot be manifest in the material world.

This comic is 100% true, but it literally doesn't matter. One of the reasons you work your ass off, get a better education, fight for the good job, etc. is to give your children a better life.

I would not be putting in 70+ hours a week between work and school if I knew that, despite all that effort, my kid was going to end up like Paula. I do all that so I can give them the opportunities that Richard has.

Yes, it's not fair that Richard has opportunities that Paula doesn't. It's not fair that both of them can work hard and that only one of them will become incredibly successful. Richard should probably get over himself believing that only he worked hard, and if he was my kid, I'd educate him so he didn't feel that way. But I would not convince him that he didn't deserve to be where he was, especially considering how many Richards and Paulas there are refusing to take advantage of the opportunities afforded them who won't make it anywhere regardless.

The comic is right, and the system is unfair. But that doesn't matter, and it doesn't need to be changed. The only idea that's wrong in the whole thing is that Richard needs to fix his fucking attitude. He's only there because of a long succession of successful, hardworking people, like his parents who gave him every opportunity. This comic is completely debunked by asking a simple question. How did the parents get rich? Lefties always argue from this exact point in time. They lack the faculties to take into account the past and the future. The "current year" meme illustrates this perfectly.

Their solution for the "problem" illustrated in the comic would go something like this: Parents A are wealthy and parents B are not, therefore, resources should be allocated from parents A to parents B in order to even the playing field.

Suppose we follow this logic, we even out all parents wealth and equalize all schools (supposing this is possible). What would happen? Surely not everyone would achieve the same results, as nature does not endow all men equally. Some are smarter, some are stronger. Some like mathematics and some don't. The class of current year will consist of people with diverse jobs and diverse incomes, and soon these people will become parents who aren't equally rich.

We quickly devolve to full blown socialism as full control over wages is required. Anything less would reintroduce the "problem" within a generation.

Something tells me you did two google searches and now feel superior to the guy who only did one. There's a wealth of literature going back decades on IQ, specifically on heritability. Huge twin studies suggest that heritability is in the 60-80% region as anon suggested. Furthermore, there are experiments that claim to have raised IQ, but none have stood the test of reproducibility.

One study does not prove a viewpont, and neither do a bunch. You have to take the entire body of literature into account and only then can you draw conclusions.

If you're seriously interested in the subject read some of Arthur Jensen's work, specifically Bias in Mental Testing comes to mind. Of course the bell curve is an entry level book that goes a little more in depth as well. A book that includes some very recent developments is the Neuroscience of Intelligence by Richard Haier. There's also a fun book by Kanazawa written for the layperson, i forgot the name, that goes over a large part of the literature and illustrates it with lots of examples.

I’m honestly ok with it, and I don’t understand why many people on here take offense to this comic. It’s a fact of life and life is known to not be “fair”.
