Oh hey man,

My start up which I'm now 35% close to completing is making personalized iPhone cases (mobile in general but first we go after the iPhone sheeps). It's a different type of case you'd not expect existed. I'm just waiting for my dies to come in, found a really cheap die maker that charges $70-90.

My new Cannon printer is decent but I think the paper might not be as good.

Not going to say more until I'm on Shark Tank ;)

Oh we're talking about eBay's new "valet" so called rip off system from Amazon's FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) program. Also known as when Amazon sells your items from their warehouse.

I can't even use eBay's Valet since I sell under $40, don't even think I would. I see a lot of problems for eBay, just like their Global Shipping Program that supposedly makes your shipping internationally cheaper was leaked that they actually just take out your products and put it in weightless packages to make it cheaper for them, while charging buyer's 2x the price what I would have to pay to ship direct international to buyers was s[read all over the forums, I stopped using it.

Also ever since I saw buyers would complain for items would be missing upon arrival. Why? Because eBay would forget to either put the same purchase back together or somehow lose my product along the way...

I'm looking into doing some sort of phone repair business over ebay/amazon. Basically all I want to do is glass repair since that seems to be where most of the profit lies. So once I actually start it up and start to make money, do I have to form an LLC? I'm having a hard time understanding what benefit it gives me to start a single member LLC. For some reason I can't find any information about tax rates/brackets for a company as opposed to individual earnings.

lol that comment belongs on "What poor people say" thread. That method never works, if it's low bid win that means it's usually worthless/rip off. Also sellers can cancel if they don't agree.

Didn't mean to shoot down your dream bro, lol it's just a method that usually ends up failing. Unless of course you're the type of guy that can grab a seller's mistake.

Example:

>Search iPhone 6
>Set to "lowest price first"
>Constantly refresh page
>Find a cheaper seller by chance
>Buy immediately
>Sell back on ebay

Of course with that method you'd only get lucky by chance, for eBay uses fake accounts to find deals like that so they can sell it themselves.

decided to try to get out of the corporate world
opened up amazon store and revived my ebay acct

constantly check wholesale sites and local stores for deals
browse the clearance section of Walmart target Meijer etc.

one full week in:
>about $150 invested in about 50-60 items
>about ten sales to date
>gross so far around $120
>profit around $80

goal is to get sales up and continue to find deals and if/when I can get my profit up to $5k/month I will quit my full time job - which I have about $200k- $150k retirement and $50-$60k to reinvest to grow my stores and supplies
most of my items right now are smaller sized easy to ship with a goal of min 50% profit per item. some have been 100%+ some broke even due to miscalculated shipping costs. Right now my profits are $5-$20 an item, hope to sell all and reinvest to buy items with $20-$100 profit.

Sometimes people don't know how to advertise what they have. Other times they just under price it.

A few weeks ago I picked up a rare gun part for $50. It's worth around $300 and I already sold it to a guy for $260. And I've picked things up because they were listed as "gun bolt" when in reality it may be a Winchester 67 bolt (sells for $100+ usually) or a "gun magazine" that when the proper phrases are used, you'll get double or triple what you paid.

This is about 20% of my resell business, just combing through listings and finding incorrectly priced or phrased deals and flipping them. Very little overhead involved.

>>677539

Did this last year for Black Friday. Sent two kids to two Wal-Marts with a pre-paid card and a list of what to buy (kids I trust well mind you, live down the street from me). They bought what they could, gave me the receipt, gave me the card back, and then I gave them cash.

not saying you were in the wrong, but this stuff happens all the time. the buyer could pay for a buy it now item and 10 minutes later you print the shipping label, then 10 minutes later the buyer is requesting to cancel an order which you cannot cancel because the package is already in the mail. just wait at least an hour.

Nice specs, I for one wouldn't suggest selling such a costly item on eBay seeing the demographic of buyers can be sometimes....well...shady.

My honest quota and what I would pay is around $1100. Looks like a 2013 rig and as you know, these parts drop in price ever year...

If you plan on selling on Craigslist, that's the price it could go for, even though you'd be shot down to at least $900. Btw you never mentioned your shell/case, if your case is shit I wouldn't even consider buying...

eBay fees will still drop the value as to shipping and so on...let's just hope you don't end up like: http://www.reddit.com/r/legaladvice/comments/2v4jxr/ebay_buyer_claims_they_received_a_box_full_of/

Hey man, I'm about to order 2-3 different samples from Aliexpress tonight (Pleb, I know I just want to learn how to sell shit on ebay at this point). If I manage to sell this cheap Chinese shit in a timely manner without losing money I'd be willing to buy a label printer, but not before that. So, hopefully the post office can print out labels themselves.

Also, I want to list on eBay and Amazon, so I can compare the two and get used to both. In your experience, does one get sales faster than the other? I found a couple products that only have Chinese selling them (a decent amount, too) at this point and I am looking to jump into the market at a price point a little above them, hopefully getting sales since I'll say Shipped from USA (or maybe made in America, lel).

Can you let me know if I'm spewing any nonsensical bullshit m8?

Welcome to the eCommerce club, I can't really help much for Amazon since I'm suspended (banned) for naughty things I had to do to get capital to get where I am.

I would suggest going ahead and hitting both markets hard, Amazon will get sales if the item is well known or well used (I.G. phone accessories) while eBay will mostly get sales at random...like honestly I don't even know how it works. Sell cosplay shit all over while my competitors on Amascam aren't selling shit.

Also you should consider selling on Reddit, especially during the holiday when they do their gifting program (it's in the hundreds of thousands of people buying geeky/anime shit all at once) lol I got in late so I couldn't get anything during Christmas.

Just be weary that Amazon does favor the buyer more than eBay, and Amazon won't help a seller for shit...unless of course you're a fortune 5.

I make around 2k, since college break few months back, I setup a new plan and found really good inventory and things I could claim "Made by hand" and sell on Etsy as well (since etsy only allows handmades and so on). But of course I'm ordering it from China ;) Just have to do some research on the wholesales sites to find simple items to sell on Etsy (which does get me around $200-400 a month). Your thrift store is nice since you get people selling to you on the daily, I have nothing on clothes so I don't know what to say, toys and so on is easy for eBay, electronics as well. You should always check the electronic and see if it works. If not, lol just list it "as-is" to cover your ass.

Yup, been looking at the local warehouses, I mean honestly if someone handed me 50k, lol I could go ahead and sell $1 $2 items and be able to turn a profit. I only buy in small amounts/specific items due to lack of space where I am.

I used to import new goods but the margins died away so now I sell second hand.

If you're going to use 3PL (3rd party logistics, i.e. a fulfillment/warehousing company), just be aware that (in my country at least) they charge per item sent out, which is a big profit killer

I'm thinking it may be more profitable to hire some warehouse space myself and employ some part time workers or students

If "FBA" means "fulfilment by amazon" then the answer is no... we don't have amazon in NZ and a number of product categories on other countries Amazon sites can't be shipped to NZ

The ecommerce market in NZ is at least 5 to 7 years behind the rest of the developed world (as is the rest of NZ's culture and economy)

I've been doing this for a few years now, and if I can give you any advice I will say "Automate ASAP". Go over ALL your system processes and automate everything you can, it will help greatly with your bottom line.

I don't see a point to that. Usually you create a company when you'd be taking on a liability that would otherwise break you without a company to take the fall. An individual ebay sale isn't that kind of liability.

>what initially got you into selling online?

Fees if you're using eBay's global shipping program, but the fee would only apply to the buyer not you. Buyer's might rage because as I mentioned earlier. >>676544

Shipping on eBay now really is a must have to have a tracking number included. So your 3Oz keychain would cost $1.93 USPS + your mailer cost (if you bought a 4x6 lot of mailers it would cost .08 each mailer).

>>682977

>what initially got you into selling online?
Not wanting to sit 7 years in school learning, 1 year looking for a job, only to retire 40 years later all worn down because I psychically worked everyday. I'd rather take a shortcut and enjoy life when I'm young.

>how do you find the particular products you are selling?
China

>how do you market your products differently from other sellers?
Copy Pasta + Talking to the buyer as if I know everything about what I'm selling

>how long do you think you will be selling stuff online? do you have any long term goals?

5-10 years max, have someone else run it while I reap the profits. Become the international vendor for China. All while starting up other small companies.

usually below $500, if your supplier cheats you out, at least you won't lose a lot. once you're adjusted with the supplier, then more.

>Selling internationally
In a way, both equally good and bad.

>Shipping
eBay provides a shipping system for you to use where they give you a shipping label and charge you right there and then. Discounted from your local post office so it's pretty good. You use your printer to print the label and put it on the package and hand it to a postman/postoffice.

Or if you want it easier just use Stamps.com and buy a label printer. Much...much easier/cheaper.

lol I used to fix iPhones back in high school. It was easier back then to fix the 4s/4s. Started off just switching the backs to different colors or the crystal clear backs (only two screws), charged $20 (lol). But when it got to the i5 I quit because I thought it would be complicated seeing that they switched everything around.

Turned out Apple made it easier to fix the phones (you could just pop out old screens)...so I started up again, but now buying from Craigslist for cheap and repairing and selling on eBay (5/5s/5c). Then the iCloud went crazy and everyone kept either scamming me or trying to sell for shitty prices...and also waste my fucking time by telling me to meet somewhere where (pathetic kids trolling) where they weren't or were but didn't want to meet because they saw I was a 6ft muscular black guy...

Anyways I ended up stopping late last year and just focused on Chinese.

I can still replace a 4s 5min tops, but now I wouldn't even do it for the $30+ I was making...

Oh and
Here's a tip to all you iPhone guys I saw posting on the thread:

You can buy bad ESN phones and swap them on eBay for brand new iPhones.

>1. Buy Bad ESN (not bad iCloud)
>2. Search eBay for sellers who swap for under $70
>3. Send in your phone
>4. They send back new phone, same model, same carrier, same color
>5. Sell brand new phone ;)

I used to do that too until again...I realized selling Chinese and staying home all day not having to deal with shitty Craigslisters was a better income for me. I still made bank, but I had to move around alot and go places...Connecticut weather sucks.

Still have my partner's number, guy gave me a great deal for swaps.

Oh and if you need proof, I still have the trusty old toolkit I used for everything from fixing iOS to Androids.

It's still a good market, and actually a really...really easy one.

Just need over 100 feedbacks and your sister buying your service then faking saying you're trustworthy, then you're in! lol

Cause I know damn well I wouldn't send shit in to anyone under 100 feedbacks.
You could easily scam someone and only have to refund them the $50 they sent for the screen replacement...god damn I'm giving too much info, y'all better not try this. lol

You don't need all that shit, lool just need a Philips/Pentalobe screw driver which comes with the $15 screen replacements you can find on eBay. Now this is for the old devices. For the 5 and up is just a pentalobe/philips and a suction cup. The suction cup isn't necessary after a while. I mean you're already going to throw away the old screen so why "carefully" take it out?

Then again if you forgot to connect the digitizer/battery or whatever when done, you'll need a spudger/suction cup if you plan on taking the screen back out without breaking it.

Okay there you have a point, just go ahead and buy the iFix once to get the tools. Then you can just buy the screens on eBay for 40% cheaper...

Also, pro tip...that phone might be iCloud locked since the orig owner never signed out of it. Unless of course if they were courteous enough to sign out from their iTunes acc at home (don't expect it, LOL). Found my share of iPhones completely destroyed, fixed and turned out they were bad. Still have like 3-5 laying around that I either was scammed on or found.

iCloud can be removed but is an ass I never want to experience, for all it would take is a reset for it to go back to normal lock...meaning you couldn't sell the phone lol.

Again Bad ESN is an easy swap for less than $70. Don't swap Sprint phones, they're not worth it. Sprint is complete ass.

I'm guessing you're looking to startup, as mentioned there a very good sites out there. Also as mentioned from the shit poster that I know is still lurking, if you're going to sell counterfeit goods, you're going to have a bad time. Such as I did when I needed capital and was dead broke. Turned out I learned I never even had to do what I did. There's plenty of items out there you can buy under a buck and make at least $6 off of (net). Just have to look.

Also as I mentioned eariler, Etsy only allows you to sell handmade goods. So find a chinese supplier who sells hand mades:

>Buy in bulk
>Sell on etsy
>Profit?

That's what I'm doing on etsy with my company items. Again it might sound fishy that I'm not telling you what I sell but as everyone not from /b/ knows, that would just add more competition.

Just curious since you have experience with Chinese products. Are there any legit HIV test kit suppliers? It seems like you could make good money since I know the health industry loves inflating prices since the demand is elastic. However, there's no way to know if the products truly work unless you wanna run some tests with people that have HIV. Any insight?

Hey man, I was thinking about getting into selling iphone cases as well. Not only would I use online markets but I would also go to local fleamarkets and use offerup.

My questions for you are:
Which Iphone case models do you typically sell the most? I was thinking of only buying cases for the 6 and 6+ but I know some people (including myself) who own the 5s, too.

Is there some sort of trait that determines which cases sell better? For instance, is it usually thinner or bulkier models? Translucent or solid colors?

Also, how much does color factor into the equation? I was thinking about getting only Black, White, Gray, Gold and Pink (since women usually go for this color).

Any other tips, aside from what you've listed above would be great.

Hey bro, yea sorry to say but I'm doing something totally different. You see I'm just making custom phone cases (photos), just like the other hundreds of companies out there that do it. The only difference between them and I are I'm using a different type of tech to make my photos.

Again I won't be telling you or anyone what it is because that would be stupid. But so far I've failed about 60 times trying to successfully make it.

But to answer your question, I don't think going into this market without prior knowledge would be useful. I mean, there's tons...tons of people like you man. But for my idea there was (was) only 1 and now there's none. So if I can make this happen...yea I feel it might actually work this time.

Then again I'm just talking my opinion sooooooooooo

>what initially got you into selling online?
I had amassed a big video game collection over 3 years, moved out and made a friend that sells on eBay, he taught me how to start selling on there.

>how do you find the particular products you are selling? Swapmeets, thrift stores, yard sales, Craigslist, Facebook

>how do you market your products differently from other sellers?
Just being a penny or so cheaper than the cheapest available, shipping included. Turn an burn everything.

>how long do you think you will be selling stuff online? do you have any long term goals?
As long as I stay consistent and keep listing/growing and amassing inventory. I want to start selling on Amazon this year as I have tons of books and some of my items in my eBay store might move faster on there.

I've hardly visited /biz/ but seeing a thread about eBay is pretty cool. I'll definitely be contributing what I can.

Be prepared for others doing the same, a good look into your wanted section in your local Craigslist will show you what everyone else is already looking for. You should really spread yourself out from just those items though. If you're unsure about anything just eBay it really quick, compare to the cheapest available and any sold listings.Video games reselling is a big thing going on and everyone and their mother is either collecting for themselves or buying to resell, it's all about finding the deals and buying in lots usually.

Big thing to remember is just because you yourself wouldn't buy it, doesn't mean someone else won't. I'm repricing some older listings right now but I'll keep a tab open if you have other questions.
