File a patent. Work with your company to make sure you arent stepping on their toes (they might sue you for the rights to the patent if you came up with the idea on company time, using company resources). Before you describe your idea, make it clear you want the patent. If they refuse, end the conversation politely and walk out. Bring it back up again in a month.
