>tfw no longer a NEET and finally have a non-shit tier job and money to invest
1. Is it too late for me to make bank on crypto, and 2. How long should I spend learning the intricacies of crypto before spending real money?

Just put a couple of bucks in and fuck around. Put more in when you're ready.

1. Read around, don't fall for shilling, DYOR

2. Invest only 25% of the total fiat you want to invest in the first two weeks or so. Be fully ready to lose around 20% of that money. I could teach you everything but the problem is unless it hurts, the lessons won't stick. Once you have figured things out a bit and aren't a total rookie anymore invest the rest of your fiat.

I would wait until BTC breaks 20K
or until it drops to 8k
Best to wait until this whole chart limbo state ends.

And yes, in both cases, there is plenty of money to made in crypto.
Just wait.
If unsatisfied with that take $500 and fuck around with shitcoins in the meantime.

I come from a highly technical STEM background. Is it worth it for me to look into finance things like cycles, or is crypto a different structure? Also, is there anything substantial that drives value behind crypto currencies beyond speculation? It seems like currencies have at most a veneer of a potential use.

If you want the big gains you need to get in on the ground floor of ICOs and low mcap coins trading on literally who exchanges. DYOR is key.

1. Read /biz/. Seriously, if you can sift through all the trash, yolu will find some gems here before they blow up

2. Once you have found something, go to coinmarketcap, check out all the data and visit the website.

Questions to ask yourself:

Is the concept promising? Can you see yourself or people you know using the coins in the future?

What's the team like? Unknowns from Timbuctoo or high profile people who have proven they can deliver?

How about the roadmap? Have they been hitting milestones and are on track to deploy a testnet or mainnet? You probably don't want your money stuck for a whole year.

How is the media buzz? This is a bit tough to judge, but you need to get in there before everybody is talking about it. A good pointer is if the team itself has decent social media presence.

And lastly if everything checks out and you found something that almost seems too good to be true, it just might be. Dig around for any red flags.

The TA shit you can just farm out to /biz/ autists for free.
