ETH allows you to do smartcontracts which is why it's worth $1000 but the contracts only allow ETH blockchain data.

Example: When you a friend sends you $50 in ETH you can instantly send him $50 in REQ.

LINK will expand smart contacts to use data outside of the ETH blockchain.

My least conservative estimate would be $20-25.
That would put it at a Mkt Cap on par with NEO (The reason for this benchmark is because I see it as having similar utility/potential) which would imply a 40x return. Unless there is more money being pumped into crypto overall, majority of the funds are going to stay in the large cap coins. I feel that the momentum isnt here yet and the NEETs on this board are doing everything they can to shill this.
The relatively high supply of 350MM is also what compliments my $20-25 estimate which implies that we are already at a fairly high valuation at the $0.7-0.6 range.
The project seems promising. The only people shilling it are external people unconnected with the operations. The core team has very limited social media presence which imo points to them being conservative.
I definitely see uncertainty but I also see a good story/idea and I feel like the corporate governance checks and balances are in place.

(Disclaimer - I own LINK and have been following this closely for a while now and as a professional equity analyst and not a trader, I believe that this is a good medium to long term hodl.)

I dont think that's the point of his statement. He is saying that firms can use the block chain for certain processes but since current block chains dont support external data inputs, it is hard for it to gain feasibility/accessibility. Chain link as the name suggests is the link between these external data inputs and the block chain.
Anon's example was also faulty.
As a consumer you probably wouldnt use chain link directly. It is more appropriate for bigger institutions who want to integrate block chain smart contracts into their current operations.

Basically Chainlink is a decentralized network of oracles.
Oracles are what translate external data to blockchain-usable data, and they have existed for some time, so in that sense Chainlink is not unique.
Where it is unique is in the decentralized network of oracles.
In the past, people had to either write their own oracles (pretty easy) or use a centralized oracle service like Oraclize.
Chainlink offers a free market network of oracles all competing over the same contracts.
This not only means the prices to use oracles will be lower due to competition, but the quality will be more trustworthy not only due to competition but also due to the possibility of using multiple oracles for redundancy.

And decentralization is not possible without incentive, so hence the token.
And no, you can't use fiat or BTC or ETH or something as payment within the network.
1) fiat isn't global and can't be used for the two kinds of staking CL offers
2) nobody would want to stake something that depends on a million external factors that have nothing to do with the independent network in which they're operating
