I've spent months filling out online job apps but with no luck, and I think I might try dressing up in a suit and visiting companies relevant to my degree to personally hand the HR people my resume.

How do I get past the inevitable "We only take online applications" bullshit that the front desk ladies are going to give me?

>> No.655140

It's not bullshit, it really is convenient for them to sort candidates through applications. Visiting them personally won't show them how "brave" you are, you will simply be an annoyance.

If you are this shit out of luck I suggest going to a job centre and see what they have to offer you. In the meantime work on some marketable skills because your resume is clearly poor.

STEM is just a foot in the door. If you are a total loser autist with no social skills people won't hire you whether you are STEM or not.

Jesus, I need to just copy pasta this...

- online app is a waste of time
- you MUST meet people in the company
- call them and ask them to join for lunch
- be nice and learn about the company (don't ask for a job)
- find out where they have a need for growth

> Oh I'd love to work in that position!

Apply. win. profit.

So your entire argument boils down to networking.

uh. yeah. that's how it works anon. This is not my opinion, it's a statement of fact.

you will not get a job just sending a resume thru the web.

getting a job is a competition. It is quite literally a sale. And the most persuassive, persistent, and qualified candidate wins the deal.

not sure why I occasionally get people fighting me on this.

I'm pretty sure people have more important shit to do than go to lunch with some random

Keep doing what you're doing. Eventually someone will respond offering you an interview.
